Speaking of former Bucs, my boy Miguel Andujar has been inserted in the Athletics clean-up spot. In 4 games, he has RBIs on 5 different at bats already. He is hitting .400 with a homer. My favorite player in Indy last year.
The Brewers put up 7 runs tonight against Inamaga, who had been the leader in fWAR for NL rookies. There are many good rookies between Skenes and Inamaga, but Skenes is rising fast (as is Gonzales).
About the first hiccup for Imanaga? It is going to be a rough year for "legit Rookies" - I have all but given up on ROY for a Pirate with 30 year old Imanaga and 25 year old Yamamoto being a part of the circus
That would be a huge step for an Owner with the rep of being frugal? And for Skenes, how many 22 year olds skip just about all of the minors (6.2 IP in 2023, 27.1 IP in 2024) the year following their draft as the 1-1? What a resource - 4 Starts, 2-0, 2.45 ERA, 22 IP, 5BB/30 K! Are he and Jones going to save Shelton's job?
Lot better than it used to. I've been watching him for four years and he was always very tentative. He was very quick to the ball on this one. Can't recognize him by his swing now. Pitch was low and in, and he really turned on it. Never used to do that.
That's great to hear. I'm pretty sure we discussed it last year and it appeared he would slow down almost stop his bat after he started his load. Tentative would be a better way to describe it.
I really can see that happening with a guy his age. I can see him being all psyched out to pitch after waiting to compete every fifth day to begin with. He will adapt in time.
Just think of what would happen to him if he did try the rapid stop and change directions. If Acuna only tore an ACL, Tellez would have his body explode…..oh the humanity!!!!!
Now they only need to get rid of the Manfred Man on second for extra innings. That situation is a solution in search of a problem. But because the owners and players love it, it’s gonna stay.
Ha, I can’t take credit for it. May have been from Ben Lindbergh or one of the guys on Baseball Prospectus, but it fits.
I understood using it in the Covid year, and maybe the year after. But it should have been retired after that.
According to stat head, 37 games went more than 12 innings in 2019, and 59 games went 12 or more. That’s out of 2,430 games in a season…so we’re talking less than 2.5% of the schedule. There were 72 games 12 innings or more in 2018. It’s like the shootout in hockey; a gimmick that reduces the game.
Thinking he was joking….. had the same thought as Wilbur that if anything was wrong that he would have at least been checked out and most likely pulled from the game.
Ro with another scoreless inning, did walk 2 but both were 8 pitch at bats. The 3 outs only took 6 pitches.

The pirates should have given him more of a chance, he was productive in the small sample he got.

I really hope Nutting throws a huge extension Skenes way, and Skenes agrees to it lol.

If there was a player to take a gamble with, Skenes more than fits the criteria. Plus there's always insurance.
Braylon Bishop showing the newfound power, 3-run bomb to put the Marauders up.
both Bishop and McGuire turn arounds sound good
How did his swing look?
Violent lol

progress!
That was quick!
Griffey like…

K% wouldn't show it, but he appears more. When he'd swing, he'd go full force at anything

Thanks
Pirates split, and now Coffey vs Beer
I wonder if Jones is up against the wall, not many baserunners but a good many runs the past 2 games?
Just some regression.
He was running super hot with an 85% strand rate until today. No starter maintains that for a season.
And his command has trended from other-worldly to merely way-better-than-expected.
That's my definition of hitting the wall...
Yep. If this was July/August, the wall would be more of a possibility. But I think you’re right. No way he keeps it up with the strand rate.
day off messed up his rhythm

Whoop, whoop!! At least a split so 26 down and 106 to go! Looking much better game #2 Raise it!!
🏴☠️
Nick the freaking stick.
Koch got hosed on the first 2 strike calls……
Just heard Marshall Nathan Van Cleef say “how the hell did that happen?” After Rowdy got a hit off of a lefty……
Flames flying from Rowdy’s spike as he goes from 1st to 3rd 😁
That's his best move Robert, until he has to stop or change directions, lol.

Ouch, lol. Shame for Acuna though. From all accounts he's a good kid and well his talent speaks for itself.
I feel stupid—I had forgotten that they did away with the 7-inning doubleheaders, which I liked. But it gave Rowdy the chance he needed.
real baseball games, we are SO back.

Hilarious! Never heard it called that, where have I been?.......Blinded by the light.

Preach!
No damage for Chapman and he even got a SO
PNC should be packed for Skenes vs. the Dodgers. Wish I could be there.
I wanted to see Daulton Jefferies.......
Bet Dalton’s going in the 9th 😁
Why do the Pirates always run the go on contact play….it never….. oh, never mind….. guess Cutch has no issues with the leg 😁
Why did Cutch grab his hammy?
Thinking he was joking….. had the same thought as Wilbur that if anything was wrong that he would have at least been checked out and most likely pulled from the game.
If anything was wrong, I don't think he'd be out there on third.
Yeah the third base coach had no reaction which led me to believe Cutch was saying things that made it clear he was joking around
