Gameday 70: Jared Jones on the mound to face the Rockies
Jones can help Pirates secure series win
Backed by three home runs, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Colorado Rockies in the first of their three-game set this weekend.
Andrew McCutchen, Bryan Reynolds, and Jack Suwinski hit homers for the Pirates, and Luis Ortiz pitched five strong innings in a combined bullpen game.
The Pirates will turn to Jared Jones now to try and take the series from the Rockies. They will face lefty Ty Blach, who will pitch for Colorado.
It will be interesting to monitor the status of Henry Davis and Oneil Cruz. Davis left the game early with concussion-like symptoms, and Cruz was scratched at the last minute with an ankle issue.
The first pitch is expected around 9:10 pm ET.

There's really nobody who can "improve" a team like Ben Cherington. The Pirates' biggest need last offseason was hitting, so he came up with guys who now have wRC+ figures of 61, 45 and 28. They needed a catcher and got Grandal, whose slapstick performance today just added to the legend -- he combines the bat of Austin Hedges with the glove of Ryan Doumit. And now bumbling Ben's two latest bullpen additions have combined for an ERA of 41.73. How does he do it?
Hayes will get luck on his side and all those hard hit balls are gonna find grass, or seats.
