Game report:

-Crowd was solid (for a Pirates eternally under .500 summer Monday with their phenom pitcher on the mound)…even with the early weather there seemed to be a lot of walk up sales

-Would like to see a little more hype on Skenes’ 2-strike pitches, but otherwise the crowd was pretty engaged the entire way

-Grandal is a paycheck-collecting hack

-As Rowdy has climbed out of the abyss, Joe has seemingly fallen into it

-Elly is sure fun to watch

I could only listen and Block said Bell went ballistic but didn't know why--did they explain that on the TV broadcast?

In any case, nice win and now we need to win the series--can't have a replay of the St. Louis series last week.

They were flashing some type of lighting during the Reds pitchers warm up and he complained to the home plate ump and then the crew chief separated them and after the plate ump walked away he turned and said something to set Bell off.

Between innings while the Reds pitcher was warming up, the Pirates were flickering the lights on and off for some reason. I'm guessing Bell went out to ask for more warm up time or just asking what was going on. It was all very calm until about 10 seconds after the first umpire walked away. The ump must have said something that Bell didn't like. Then Bell went crazy.

I think most of this is close to accurate.

I really think Grandal has an injury issue, which is why he's lobbing the ball. He suffered an injury a while back that affected his throwing. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go on the injured list when Bart is ready.

I also think they like him catching Skenes games.

Man, I have started to listen to other teams broadcasts and Greg Brown just really fucking sucks as a play by play guy. Good thing I’m not vision impaired or I would never know what is going on.

His "Get back Loretta" schtick is cringe Worthy. Dude has quite a few geeky moments. As a kid I remember Lanny Frattare calling games. He was superior. Lanny made games on the radio exciting.

Brownie is good for one thing: letting you know what the line is from state-run media. For example, Rowdy Tellez has seen his shadow so its six more weeks of Rowdyball.

He should have been released the day after that fiasco in Colorado. The fact that he’s still here says more about the lack of accountability on this team than it does about him. Koch is a better choice than he is. The guy can’t hit a lick but at least he keeps his head in the game on defense.

Catching depth in the minors does matter. Not that I'm pro-Grandal, but there are knock-on effects.

What's amazing about Skenes is his domination of the opposition when he's not pitching with his best or most lethal stuff. His Whip exceeds one as does his K-rate. There was nothing that was jaw-dropping about his start except for the fact that the Reds ended up with next to nothing against him. This is how a twenty-game winner does it -- dominate without actually dominating.
