Gameday 86: Pirates look for series win on Independence Day
Martin Perez pitch for the Pirates as they look for a series win
Trailing 4-3 going into the bottom of the 10th inning, the Pirates came back and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals on a walk-off single by Oneil Cruz.
Jared Jones pitched five innings but was pulled after 78 pitches. Derek Shelton said it was due to a right lat strain, but Jones did mention he could have continued if necessary.
Rowdy Tellez picked up three hits, including his fifth home run of the season. Oneil Cruz hit a double earlier in the game before hitting the walk-off single in the 10th.
With a chance to win the series, the Pirates will have Martin Perez on the mound. Andre Pallante is expected to make his seventh start and 16th overall appearance.

Yesterday’s Feature
It hasn’t been an ideal season for Jack Suwinski, which, based on some of his analytics, was predictable. But did it forecast this big a drop-off? I look at what has changed from last year to this season.

Garret Forrester sighting. Starting rehab today in the FCL.
I’m hoping when he returns to Bradenton it’ll trigger some promotions.
There’s no stat for it, or at least I don’t know what it might be, but Cruz saved a run in the top of the ninth with his arm or really with just the threat of his arm.
