Just gonna add another one to the "Suwinski mostly hits dongs in low leverage" file.

Pat Murphy saying this is the only home game the Brewers have been out of all season in postgame. "Credit to them"

44 in da books. Quinn was the Mighty one, tonight. To borrow (steal) the line “Let this be the real Quinn Priester. Maybe use the Ortiz method and let him follow an opener for a few “starts” and see if the helps him calm the nerves like it seems to have done with Luis. Raise it!!!!

It'd be ironic if Quinn and Ortiz ended up in the rotation after all.

Would be an interesting development. Quinn and Ortiz with Termarr to Rockies for Doyle and McMahon

Doyle, and virtually every Rockies hitter ever, scares me with their home/away splits. He was given a hit tool FV of 30....If he actually figured it out with his power/speed/defense, that is a real guy.

Expand full comment

I agree, and Doyle specifically has had wildly polar opposite splits. Truth be told, I made this comment almost solely because when I looked at the Reds and Rockies box score last night, Doyle was 3-for-3 with two bombs and a double. Doyle's Statcast at least does show there might be something to his bat this season.

I'd take that deal, but as Wilbur said they're a bit out of our price range

Great trade idea. Too bad McMahon is owed about $50M. Good value for a major league team, but Nuttin doing.

19 homers for the Bucs in July which is most in MLB.

I think the league is tampering with the baseballs to try to boost offense and they're beta testing them with the pirates -- the thinking is, if the new ball works for the pirates, it'll work for anyone.

That'd be a little more funny if my brain didn't buy it for a second.

Ro got bopped tonight. Oops

Yeah, bummer for him. Per the box looked good through 2 but could not get an out in the top of the 3rd. Remember that from when he was with the Bucs. Was prone to have the very bad inning when he could not buy an out.

Two weird stats from this game (per brownie):

First time ever pirates have beaten the brewers by 10+ runs (anyone else still smarting over the 20-0 game?)

And the pirates are the only team this season to have three games with 5+ homers. The lumber what?

And they've already tied a team record for slams in a season

Raise it!!

Two jolly rogers for each run scored!

If I read this right, the Pirates have 11 hits, 3 walks and 12 runs. That is pretty efficient today.

Huh, tv time with the wife and come back to 8 more runs lol

Funny this is the 2nd position player we have faced in the last 2 weeks and Hayes has hit into double plays both times. And the crazy part is he wasn’t able to pull the ball either time, straight to the 2nd baseman!

His swing is so engrained, it is permanently broken. Which is a damn shame.

I hope they have a bulletin board for stuff like this in the clubhouse but sort of doubt it with Sheltie and crew.

Oscar whispered magic words to Santana -- Santana responds with 9 straight strikes to close the inning. Well done on both ends.

Too bad I missed it for the Argentina-Canada America Cup semifinal. My boys Fleming and Priester were pitching too. Oh well... not going to have many more chances to watch Messi win an international cup.

Should be a good game. Classic matchup of a speedy counter-attacking team against a deliberate, ball-control, organized defensive team. IMO, Columbia is a darkhorse to win the next World Cup. Their team is surprisingly good. I expect them to win... but well-ordered teams, like Uruguay, are always competitive.

Now I want sushi!!

Real Sushi! The sushi in the town down the way is for crap. Same with the sushi in Cordoba. Had good sushi in Mendoza last year on vacation.. before the wine tour. Highly recommended BTW. Get a local guide.

Enjoying this BUT I don’t want a repeat of what just happened with the Mets after the blowout on Friday.

Expand full comment

If they can split the next 2 and then sweep the White Sox they can be 48-48 at the break. That would set them up for a run in the second half.

Expand full comment

That would be a huge boost, but we’ve lost series and have even been swept by bad teams so I’m not even taking the White Sox for granted.

Expand full comment

Gotta be optimistic tonight!

But I could totally see them go 1-2 against the white Sox.
