Overview
The Pirates drafted Stieg as a senior. He was well regarded before the 2025 draft, but missed that season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. His recovery season was rough, as he put up a 7.46 ERA in 15 starts and his walks doubled, from 2.3 per nine innings to 4.5. His K/9 was only 7.1. He throws a low-90s fastball that can reach 96-97, along with a slider, change and cutter. Baseball America describes his secondary pitches as inconsistent in 2026, but did rank him 289th among draft prospects.
