I guess Nicky G will be backing up Hayes at third when he's not playing second unless they think Williams is the answer for an anemic offense and Nick is the platoon player, lol.
Skenes promotion is to mask the ineptitude of the offensive side. Unless they fire some coaches, show willingness to spend more on actually competent free agents hitters for 1B or OF, there is no seriousness about being a winning team. They genuinely "lucked" into Skenes with the lottery and Jones is far better than anyone - including management expected. Maybe the pitching this year has to do with Marin's weight loss. That topic is more interesting than their hitting!
That's probably the "ill advised approach change" they made early this season. Had him come off the plate too much and pitchers just ate him up on the hands in.
Waiting for Ethan's take on the average first year arb salary of a Super 2. That would be for his 2027 season.....I guess the bigger problem will be arb years 3 and 4.
Latter is good 😁 Not expecting Nicky Sticks to have a 1.000 + OPS in the show but asolid 800+ with th same lower SO% would be just what the batting order needs 🤞🤞🤞
"Cherington avoids getting too far ahead of himself. He tries not to stress about the list of high-velocity pitchers and arm injuries. Shohei Ohtani isn't pitching this season because of reconstructive elbow surgery. Nor are Spencer Strider, Shane McClanahan, Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez. Gerrit Cole and Jesus Luzardo are out with elbow injuries, Grayson Rodriguez and Bobby Miller on the shelf with shoulder issues. That's nine of the 10 hardest-throwing starters in 2023 -- a spot Skenes and Jones are certain to fill in their absence."
I knew that all of these guys were out, but still when I got to the part about 9 out of 10, it shook me.
WTM and I saw Matoma at Pirates City today. Looked good. Struck side with a walk and hit. Nola said he got up to 98. Have some video I’ll be putting up at some point
Gotta keep that ERA down, striking out the side is one way to do it. Maybe next time he won't walk or give up a hit. I think that's 18+ innings without an earned run.
I don't know whether there's a pitch count, but it'd be very high for one scoreless inning. Went 3-2 on most of the hitters. He threw mostly FBs and had a ton of them fouled off. If his secondary pitches develop . . . .
Conspiracy theory time. Ben was at the Curve game yesterday, with some other gentlemen, no idea who. And Jase Bowen was randomly pulled from the game in the third today. Pitching coach was talking to Chen (with interpreter) and the ump waved at Bowen to come off the field. Went back to Jase's previous AB where he reached on an error by the SS, and stole 2B. No limping or favoring anything I saw, and both balls hit to OF in the 3rd went to RF, not CF where he was. So, very odd he got pulled from the game in the top of the 3rd.
There is no way i trade chandler or solometo, but harrington, ashcraft, even meuth absolutely

Williams sent down

Davis not hitting but getting hit most games.
just got hit again. There was no dodging that pitch. Henry a little pissed, now hit 4 times in 3 games.
Dang
been hit 3 times in 3 games since being demoted.

My guy Escotto starting strong
Not sure there’s been a ball that Delgado hasn’t hit hard from what I’ve see
This Keiner-Delgado-has-no-power thing is . . . dubious.
Keith Law agrees.
Not sure if it’s been noted, but Nick G to Pgh.
Skenes was permitted an extra suitcase for the flight to the Burgh! Nice.
It looks like either send down Triolo or dfa Alika, but my vote would be to send down KeBryan until he is ready to be a major leaguer again.
Hayes’ bat and base running are the single most frustrating part of this team. Both can be so much better.
Aggravating!
They would send Alika down, he has options and they can put Marco on the 60 IL.
It’s pretty clear we won’t see Marco for a while, if again this year at all.
Thanks.
Could explain Jase Bowen getting pulled earlier.
Maybe Bubba to AAA to replace Skenes?
Keep checking the transactions page.
Absolutely. Nothin yet!
Nick Gonzales was scratched from the Indy games, injury or promotion?

Bae with a home run to left center, haven’t watched a lot of Indy games, but that was impressive.
He almost just hit another. Warning track fly out.
Good article on espn (https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/40108333/mlb-paul-skenes-pittsburgh-pirates-debut-top-prospect-ace) about Skenes, and though it was not the focus of the article, this paragraph really caught my attention (and is related to some of the discussion today):

He threw one slider, for a strikeout, that was NASTY. Just needs to replicate and find consistency
Scouting reports on his secondaries are very good. Just gotta see em more. Considering that inning was basically all FBs, it went well.
Peak Mitch Keller for a bat >>> mid Mitch Keller for $85m
Keller actually would be perfect for a team with a major league lineup and a good bullpen.
Owen Kellington had TJ.
There was more TJS in 2023, than all of the 1990's.

Who ya think we are getting from Miami. They liked the Padres AFL performers, Bowen was an All Star out there and came close in the homerun derby.
Hope it's Jazz.
Jake Burger, you're a Pirate
(not seriously. This is a joke)
Cue the Twilight Zone theme . . . .
