Good job on the podcast and thanks for answering my question.

You guys. I was just starting to listen to the podcast when THIS article popped up in that "pocket" thing that shoots stories at you. I swear AI is listening. It's smart. And it IS listening. I wanted to share this article about the science and psychology of bad thinkers with you. Somewhat off topic for baseball, but there is a segment in this story that talks about a "hot hand" in basketball that is interesting. Sabermetrics, in general, is in the business of defeating bad thinking.

Enjoy. I'm'a read this article over and over again.

Interesting to me that for 2025 designated hitter Andrew McCutchen is a better choice than Josh Bell, despite being 38 years old. Higher OPB, Slug, OPS and OPS+ in 2024 than Bell. And $1M cheaper.

Remember Josh Bell? Yes, and I also remember Andrew McCutchen.

First red flag of Cherinton's term was holding onto him and Frazier through the 2020 season for absolutely no reason.

I think that might have been a combination of a) Cherington asking for too much and b) other owners expecting the Pirates to just settle for the best offer.

Could be.

I tend to take them at there word and blame this on their whole stupid "Build not Rebuild" pitch they were making at the time, which obviously proved to be BS on account of the fact they did nothing to actual build on the players they kept and eventually traded the last remaining ones a year later for less than they'd have gotten after 2019.

A few very excellent questions submitted, and the answers were good to hear. I liked the Horwitz get and look forward to getting his bat into the lineup. I doubt he will log 20 HR's, but he is an excellent add with solid BB/K numbers that support strong OB numbers and hope we will also see as much or close from another new LH hitter in 2025, Catcher Endy Rodriguez.

Been out of pocket for about a week with Christmas Eve, Day, and then 5 days at Universal Studio's over the holiday, but being a Pirate Fan, I don't think I missed anything! There are going to be some tough decisions the Pirates will have to make between now and the end of ST that will tell us whether they are going to try to make the playoffs in 2025. Keeping DS as the Manager was the first mistake of the 2025 Season, but adding a young, well respected Hitting Coach could play big dividends, and offset the negative effects of DS.

Hopefully Matt Hague can make contact early with a few of the young Pirate hitters who struggled in 2024. Missing Jack Suwinski's 26 HR/74 RBI from 2023 was the biggest offensive miss in 2024. Hague worked with IKF and Spencer Horwitz in Toronto, so hopefully that pays immediate dividends. By MLB Rules would he be allowed to work with players at non-Pirate facilities before the early reporting date?
