We actually drafted the guy in 2010 I think. Did not sign. Another guy with stuff but not a whole lot of luck making the ball go where he wants it too.
Yes of course, rookies who've never come close to a full-season workload are a great source of reinforcement in the heat of a pennant race this has been successful numerous times before.
Lol. Foo’s been on sites for years. The Asylum. PP. BoD. Hes cancelled himself mutliple times but seems to eventually come back. I hope he comes back again. Seems like a good dude.
The Pirates will start practicing at Pirate City on Feb 14. They move to LECOM for exhibitions, I think starting the day before the first game. Unless something changes, PC is always open to the public, except the indoor areas. Things usually get moving at 10am, although sometimes there may be a meeting or something inside. LECOM is only open when the gates open an hour before game time.
Once the major leaguers leave PC, the minor leaguers take over. Often there’ll be some major leaguers still getting work there, especially once MiL exhibitions start in mid-March.
Great information. Thanks. I will be getting in Bradenton Friday the 16th early afternoon. I will try to head over to Pirate City then and if I get lucky there still might be some stragglers.
It may seem that way, but signing a guy like Yasmani Grandal can pay big dividends. He has played for the Padres, Dodgers, Brewers, and CWS. A switchhitter that signed for $2.5 mil - his last contract was for $54+ mil for 3 years with the CWS. In 2021 he had an OPS+ of 155.
At 35 he wants to try to re-capture his earning power and get picked up by a contender at the deadline. The Pirates get another bat (?), but more so they get his experience and the knowledge he can impart to our young pitchers! He has name recognition for catching a lot of solid pitchers such as Dylan Cease, Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn, Michael Kopech, Johnny Cueto, and others while with the CWS.
I appreciate your optimism... that is usually me. I just don't see why we signed Ali Sanchez early to a major league deal. Doesn't make sense to have 4 guys at C on the 40 man. Know Delay can be optioned... but they still do not need 3 C to start the season. Unless of course they continue to screw up Davis' development.
There are never too many Catchers on Feb 13th, the official Pirate start of ST for Pitchers and Catchers. Figure we may have between 75-100 pitchers in camp the first week?
I like your positive outlook, but I watched enough decline not only in Grandal, but the pitching staff as well. His 3 years catching with the Sox, in ERA they were 5th in 2021, 16th in 2022 and 26th in 2023. I am not giving up on Grandal, but I will say he odss are against him.
The CWS were absolutely pitiful the last 2 years. They had talent, but for an entire team to crash and burn like they did, there were problems everywhere, and especially in the front office. Their Active Roster (26 man) was $181 mil to start 2023! Only $100+ mil more than the Pirates.
How about a lack of confidence they have enough depth at C behind Davis and Delay? Catcher is a physically demanding position. Not smart to expect two players will be able to cover 162 games.
Pirates reportedly interested in Domingo German.
So they’re fine with players accused of domestic violence as long as they’re gassed. Noted.
did we just sign a guy named "sadsuck" ?

Sadsuck and sharts in the pen. There has to be a joke there.
I think there are many jokes in there 🤣🤣🤣
Guess only come out by surprise?
Lol! There is one of them :)
Sounds like a Pirate. Or how I feel about 85-105 times a season.

Schneider lens.
Not related like a fair bit of my posts but does Lee Fieux still post on here? Feel like I haven't seen him in a while?
I hope to get BRey again on my fantasy baseball team. FYI
self-cancelation.
cancel culture got Fieux
I think he said that he got too bitter and was not going to aggravate himself by posting his aggravation anymore.

lee is a great guy. I once attended an Altoona Curve game with he and his wife. had a wonderful day! Miss him very much in these parts.
Yeah, have seen him reappear before have had a lot of good conversations with Foo.
Always liked the name. Sounded Asian but spelled with a French twist.
The Artist Formerly Known as Foo
I hope not.

They should all be there then. Or at least pitchers and catchers. Not sure when full squad reports. P&C are 2/13, workouts start 2/14.
Feels like the last question needed the classic Jim Mora riff for a quick and easy answer 😋
The only thing the Pirates front office have showed coming into the 2024 is a lack of confidence in Hank Davis and Jason Delay.

Thanks to the Pirates PR team for their input!

Maybe is easier to pass through waivers? Does a team has to offer him a 40 spot if waive and claim?

Everyone is forgetting about us diving quickly to sign Ali Sanchez to the MLB deal.
I’m old enough to remember when they had to bring a kid up from A ball to be the Pirates Catcher one time because they didn’t have enough depth.
