So I see on mlb.com that Nutting laid off the grounds crew, and now they have the starting pitchers out tending the field on their off-days. Now that's just smart business.
Funny, Yohan Ramirez re-signed. Made no sense for him to leave. If the Pirates trade Bednar, Santana and Ferguson, somebody gotta pitch. And Nicolas isn’t making progress.
The Detroit Tigers, despite their strong record, have several needs to address at the upcoming trade deadline. These include a right-handed bat, starting pitching, and bullpen reinforcements. Additionally, they may seek to solidify their infield defense, potentially targeting a third baseman or shortstop. ———— So Keller or Bedner or Hayes?????? looks like we have everything they need other than the right handed bat. Just saying
It was a fun 6 game winning streak when the bats finally came alive but I guess that was meaningless as the bats are again sleeping and hits and runs are what the opposing teams get against the pirate's. Even great pitching doesn't result in wins.
It is easy to count pitchers out after they miss over a year. Burrows has exceeded expectations. How awesome would it be for the Prates if both Oviedo and Jared Jones could exceed expectations in their returns.
I have no doubt in the ability of Oviedo and Jones to come back as strong or stronger than when they left. I also have confidence in Burrows, Falter (I am a convert), Skenes and Keller. Heaney is all but gone already and his contract cheap enough that I am surprised a team has not contacted the Pirates already. These games between now and the AS Break and between the AS Break and the Trade Deadline are of critical importance and should not be overlooked. Make BC an offer now, and then leave a calling card for Mitch Keller!
At AAA we could be even deeper with Chandler, Ashcraft, Barco, Mlodzinski, Harrington, and a few guys at AA. A smart team could sweeten the pot for Keller if Dotel is added.
Agree with all of that, except differ slightly on the last sentence. For once the Pirates should be in the drivers seat. While there are over a dozen teams looking for pitching, the Pirates might have the most solid pitcher out there. A smart team would create a bidding war... and yest if Dotel is what it takes to pull off a monster deal, so be it.

i think that is also the same reason Sullivan resigned
in best case scenario, how far out is Oviedo? he pitches for us in 2025?
Doubt it. He can’t get through an inning now.
seems like the mental approach that he and jones are taking to this results in them overextending themselves and doing unnecessary damage

The key and most important part is a smart team. So far that ingredient has been missing from the equation.
