Pirates would need to use their Comp pick(36 overall) on Cam Smith. I doubt he even makes it to 47(their 2nd round pick).
If he is still even available at 36. He might sneak into that 1st round. Especially if a team buys the glove and thinks he can play some 2B and maybe a corner OF spot too.
Hartle’s stuff hasn’t improved over the last two years even in WF’s famous pitching lab. The control is good, but I’d pass.
There are just better arms out there(like Yesavage, Holman((who you mentioned later)), Forcucci, Holton, Ryan Johnson,
Derek Vartanian, Jump, Prager, Ager, Marcus Morgan, Obermueller, Connor Foley, Luke Sinnard((TJ)) just to name a few).
Three lefties were on the mound tonight in D1. Hagen Smith was dominant against Auburn, Ryan Prager was very good against Miss State and Josh Hartle got a win but gave up 7 runs against Louisville.
Montgomery was 2 for 4 and Seaver King was 2 for 4 with a triple.
With our 2nd or 3rd pick, still best available at pick #9. I would actually like us to take a familiar name in round 3 or later "Jared Jones" Tommy's teammate.
I watched a few of Cam Smith at bats, he's a hitter! Like you said he needs to cut down on the chasing out of the zone and maybe more patient on his pitch in the zone. Not with his swing but he reminds me of Vlad Sr., there isn't a pitch he's afraid to hit when he's sitting on it and it's close the zone.
You had me at Vlad Sr. I always wanted a Vlad Sr of our very own. At least until he reaches the trade deadline the year before free agency. Want to get more for him that what they would offer for a half year rental.
He doesn't have quite the bat to ball skills as Vlad, but it looks like he attacks pitches he's sitting on like Vlad, even if it's not the ideal pitch to hit. He wouldn't be my pick at 9 unless the first 8 were other college bats taken before him and something happens with Burns or Smith on the pitching side. He is definitely right at the top of the next group in the 11 through 20 range.
I might be taking the 3rd base depth of the pirates in to account for dropping him down though.
I remember hoping that Jose Guillen would be my generation's poor mans Clemente. Twas not to be. I just want a poor man's Ichiro. If we can raise the money would you be willing to scout in the Far East? How's your Japanese?
He has the arm and range to stick at third, but I read something about having to sure up the 'accuracy'. Also saw that he played a little outfield at some part, either his freshman year or at the Cape Cod League.
I would love for him to be there for the compA pick, but I think he'll go around 15 +/-. If he keeps on hitting like he has he could easily move into the top 10. He looks like a guy the Angel's could take, a fast mover at a position they'll need unless their injury prone anchor gets healthy and performs.

Chase Burns with another dominant performance against Louisville.
Him and Hagen Smith look like sure fire top 10 picks so far on the pitching side.
Hagen Smith > Chase Burns
I like Smith better, I doubt either will last to pick 9.
Both will be long by the time the Pirates are on the clock.
Hagen Smith doesn’t make it passed St.Louis at 8. And Burns probably goes top 5. And Hagen Smith might sneak into that top 5 too or KC at 6 too.

Matoma’s throwing here. Don’t know whether he’s going to pitch. Slightly built guy. Amazing he can hit 100.
So you're saying he's got room to add more!
On a serious note, I'm excited that he made it to Florida instead of being on the island.
Forrester catching again at PC. They seem serious about this.
How's he looking?
Looks fine, pretty smooth. Not seeing stuff get by him. He didn’t catch in college, so it’s new afaik.
Keller and Ortiz both somewhere around five innings in these games. Davis catching Keller.
Forrester has a catchers build, I like his bat a lot better if he can make it as a catcher, even as a backup.
TOMMY TANKS TOMMY TANKS TOMMY TANKS
I'm going the lefty version
BURKE BOMBS BURKE 💣

Ok ill accept your proposition

With his arm, stick him in RF, boom lol

Little to none
Then just talk the language of baseball.
Is he a true 3bman?

15ish sounds about right for him, even then that feels like he could be a steal for whoever takes him there he keeps getting better.
Just edited to include a team like the Angels grabbing him in the top 10 lol.
He looks like a fast mover.
