Would love to see the Rangers win their first World Series this year.
I am tired of hearing how "unlucky" the Dodgers are. For years, the Dodgers have refused to make moves at the trade deadline to bolster their team. Every year, there are significant weaknesses on the Dodgers' team, whether it is in the bullpen or rotation or at C or other positions. Every year they offer peanuts for quality players and after their absurd offers are rejected and their team bombs out, the fans complain about how they have no "luck" in the post-season. Their big move this year was trade some junk for washed up Lance Lynn. This after knowing that Gonsolin was pitching on a bum elbow and that they had, at best, 2 competent starters available for the post-season.
Compare the Astros (who have been to 7 consecutive ALCS and appear to have lots of "luck") and Rangers who made moves to pick up Max Scherzer, Jordan Montgomery, and Justin Verlander at the trade deadline. Apparently, there is more than "luck" to how well one does in the post-season.
Plenty of teams have won the trade deadline and lost in October. Dodgers GM understands that developing homegrown talent is the key to sustained regular season success. Dodgers weren’t undone by refusing to deal their best prospects for Scherzer/Verlander. They were undone by Urias and Bauer hitting women.
PS - postseason success is part SSS luck and clutch hitting/pitching. Sure some guys raise their game when pressure is greatest (Jeter, Reggie, Stargell, etc.), and others can’t seem to handle the moment as well (Winfield, Bonds, Maddux, etc.). But this doesn’t explain all the Astros success, just as the trash can banging isn’t the only reason either.
It’s sheer bad luck that they chose to go with Kershaw in game one. Their wifi was down that afternoon, so they didn’t realize he’s not good in the postseason.
My kingdom for a catcher outcome like Jonah Heim.
Wheeler looking like 2015 Jake Arrieta
What an incredible run by the Rangers so far
Lotta people eating crow for Year 1 takes of that free agent spree they went on last year.
Hedges v Castro WS! Assuming that either is on the roster.....
