Brett Sullivan has replaced Gutierrez on the taxi squad. Seems like they should know by now whether Bart can go or not.
Sullivan’s been a surprisingly solid hitter for a catcher throughout his time in the minors. It’s odd he’s stayed unnoticed. He’s apparently just middling defensively.
I'm disappointed that Canario or Suwinski aren't in the lineup, especially Suwinski with a RHP on the mound. It just doesn't seem like how we should be developing young players.
If Shelton wants to sink or swim with Pham and Frazier, then I hope Cherington will actually allow him to sink if things don't work out.
Big day for SPs in the system today, if the probables hold: Harrington, Dotel, McMillan and Carlos Castillo.
Also of note, Carson Fulmer is pitching very well for Indy. Not sure where he’d fit in, but he was passable as a swing man last year for LAA. After so many years of struggling in the majors and minors, maybe he’s figuring it out.
You mentioned Hunter Barco, and the Curve pitching overall is off to a very good start to 2025.
First page of Eastern League AA Pitching stats:
Hunter Barco - 3 Starts, 13 IP, 0.00 ERA
Anthony Solometo - 2 Starts, 10 IP, 0.90 ERA
Wilber Dotel - 2 Starts, 8.2 IP, 1.04 ERA
Nick Dombkowski - 4 Relief App, 9 IP, 2.00 ERA
The pitching at A+ is also off to a VG start with both Antwone Kelly (3 Starts) and Garrett McMillan (2 Starts) as first pagers in the South Atlantic League.
Good points. Nunez could be a good RH hitting 1B to balance with the LH hitting Spencer Horwitz. Both are VG with the gloves at 1B also.
Really pleased to see Shalin Polanco coming alive at A+. He struggled as a 20 year old at A, and seems to be playing and hitting with more confidence so far this year - around .950 OPS highlighted by 4 EBH (2 HR) in only 25 AB. His BB/K numbers last year were 10.19%/31.02%. So far this year 15.15%/24.24%. If he can keep that up, he will move quickly - 7 OF Assists last year.

I guess we know Bart’s status (in today’s lineup) now! Good timing on your comment.

Veteranosity.
It’s good he’s ready to start. I was afraid it was gonna drag on with him in emergency-only status.

Hopeful signs from Nunez and Polanco, both still young for their level.
