has Siani jumped Suwinski on the depth chart?

1A and 1B on the list of LH hitting OF's who can play all 3 OF positions. Reynolds and Cruz are locks, and Cook could be the best bet for a RH Power hitting OF. If we are looking to save Reynolds legs and poor D the past few years, then both Suwinski and Siani have the D to cover LF as well as CF.

It could come to a ST battle between Jack and Sammy, with Jack leading going in based on his 2023 year. Siani has show the ability to get on base, steal bases, and is also developing a little more pop. He has really done himself a favor with his performance in the AFL and the AFL All Star game. Thank you John for the info on the defensive plays by Siani - somehow his 2 hits and strong defense was overlooked when picking the stars of the game.

I get that there’s not much baseball for Pirates fan to talk about, but the Siani hype is reaching historical levels!!! Let him do well in AA, or any level (which he really hasn’t) before anointing him!

I think he's playing more for a 40-man roster spot this winter than a big league job before 2026 if all goes well. I think the Pirates could add him just because he's getting attention now. I wouldn't have said that about ten days ago. Part of the thinking is just that they don't have a roster crunch or anyone else that they NEED to add.

Sure, let’s see what that depth looks like;

BRey

Cruz

BDLC*

Palacios

Cook

Yorke*

Joe*

Bae

Siani

Suwinski!

The point is that even with the worst (or one of) outfield in the majors he’s still a way off. Maybe if he succeeds in AAA, shit even AA he could move up this anemic list.

what does the star next to Yorke´s name mean?

Expand full comment

His listed as an infielder/outfielder and the outfield might be his best option unless Nick regresses from an average hitter which is very possible.

oh I thought the stars meant nontendered

In the other two cases yes. It was meant as a way to say that they may not be depth, but as long as they are on the roster they are ahead of him.

They are as good as gone

Here hoping that the ratbirds are not able to get off from under that contract and feel the full weight of it for years to come!
