Morning Rundown: Bowen, Brannigan pick up hits, Texas to World Series, NLCS game 7
Texas Rangers advance to the World Series while the NLCS will go seven
Jack Brannigan and Jase Bowen both picked up base hits Monday night in the Arizona Fall League. Bowen went 1-for-5 with two strikes while batting second and playing right field.
For Brannigan, he reached base twice, also getting hit by a pitch. He stole a pair of bases while also scoring two runs. He also struck out twice as well.
When it comes to pitchers, only Cam Junker got into the game, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk while pitching the sixth inning. He struck out a pair of hitters, and after allowing the two runs his ERA now jumps up to 9.00.
With the Texas Rangers winning on Monday, that means the road team took each game of the ALCS. They didn’t leave any room for doubt as well, winning 11-4 behind Adolis Garcia and his 4-5 day, driving in five runs as well as hitting two home runs.
Max Scherzer allowed two runs in 2.2 innings before giving way to Jordan Montgomery, who threw another 2.1 frames and picked up the win.
Jose Leclerc closed things to clinch the Rangers first trip to the World Series since 2011.
The Rangers opponent in the Fall Classic will be decided on Tuesday after Arizona forced a game seven by jumping out on Aaron Nola to win 5-1.
Thommy Pham hit a solo home run to open up the scoring. The Diamondbacks scored three runs in the second inning on Nola with Ketel Marte driving in a run on two separate occasions later in the game to push the lead forward.
Merrill Kelly pitched five one-run innings to get the win, with the bullpen closing things out from there.
Rookie and former top 100 prospect Brandon Pfaadt (0-0, 2.13 ERA) is expected to face Ranger Suarez (1-0, 0.64 ERA) in Tuesday’s game seven.
Yadi apparently set to become a coach with the Cards. Will he get to call balls and strikes from the dugout?
Brandon Pfaadt vs. Ranger Suarez. Whoda thunk it? Baseball continues to amaze.
