The pieces are in place, pitching wins in the post-season. Shore up the defense, get a couple bats and a couple pen arms. The blueprint should not be Baltimore, I don't think you can win with a bunch of kids, Gunnar & Adley were spooked, the stage is too big. Follow what KC is doing, get some grown ass men and this can be accomplished without bigtime spending.
For what it’s worth, I fully agree that the pen and defense is more significant in the playoffs. I just don’t think the results in that series are a referendum on Baltimore’s rebuild.
How do you explain Witt then? He’s a year older than Henderson and younger than Rutschman. It’s easy to overreact to two bad games, and Baltimore has looked wobbly for a while.
I guess my point is you don't need to tank year after year like Balt did to get all these high draft picks.
KC lost 106 games and was smart during the off-season. Their team isn't built around a bunch of kids. Tanking is dumb, you can build a winner without tank jobs.
1 fucking run scored in 18 innings. 10 straight playoff L's. They've been embarrassed 2 consecutive years in the playoffs. I don't know, maybe blame it on moving the fence back too far.
Had to laugh at the results of the opening round, since we had people here dismissing the Royals' success as just their owner spending some money in an effort to get a new ballpark. I bet their fans are really bummed that that's the reason they are where they are.
Any chance Nutwit is learning anything from KC? Nah, didn't think so.
Padres losing Musgrove is a big blow to their chances to beat the Dodgers.
Rooting hard for Brew Crew to down the Mets. I’m a big fan of how that organization is run. Definitely wish Pirates were operated in a similar fashion.
For another, how about how the Detroit Tigers are being run? OK, quick question - Who is the Manager of the Detroit Tigers? Yep, no problem. But, who is the General Manager of the Detroit Tigers?
I would have used the Brew Crew, but their GM is more well known and active, but I never get the thought that he tries to manipulate the team like I think our GM likes to do through Shelton. The puppet master and the puppet!
I suppose my idea of trading Skenes for Chourio since he's under control for an extra four years (well-run organization vs. ours) isn't so crazy. I wouldn't trade Skenes, and I don't think the Brewers would trade Chourio. It was just one of those idle thoughts I had when bemoaning that we'll be down to five years of control for Skenes and contention doesn't seem to be in sight. Getting those extra four years of an elite talent would give the next administration something to build around.
There is a win-win option where we buy out a year or two that provides him security on the chance that he gets injured but allows him to still reach FA in his 20s, about the same age as when Cole reached FA and signed his mega-deal. That's the advantage of making the majors at a relatively young age.
But it would require Bob to pay an annual salary for a couple of years much higher than he's ever paid, so it's unlikely.
A couple of underdogs take the spotlight - KC over the Orioles, and Detroit over the Astro's. It is possible with good management. Would not call the Padres win over the Braves a surprise - an unusual year for San Diego in that their house of stars are playing up to their expectations, and the addition of a Rookie (Merrill) possibly leading the way.
Hard to see KC advancing through the next round, but, IMO, the Padres have to be seen as the favorite between they and the Dodgers. Detroit is the Wild Wild Card with possibly the best Manager in the Playoffs. Hard to underestimate the importance of a Manager in this game.
B'more has a lot of talent, but the hitting started to tank late in the regular season. They will definitely be looking for another SP over the off-season. Hard to think they are in need of a position player. The Braves just need to heal, and the Astro's are a mystery to me - very talented pitching and hitting, but just picked the wrong time to struggle against a young team that did not know they were not supposed to win.
To whom is the General Manager in 2025,

Witt is a full-grown man. Gunnar's still a kid struggling with growing a mustache. Baltimore also got swept last season by Texas.
Just my opinion, but I don't think you can win post-season games with kids.
And we’re going Facial Hair Above Replacement?
So they should…get rid of them? Come on.
Why would you get rid of him? I watched him & Adley closely and they appeared to be spooked. Especially Gunnar.
Some dudes don't perform on the biggest stage. Bonds was a notorious underperformer in the post-season for the Pirates.
I saw the look in Gunnar's eyes with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and I knew he was going to K. Kid was scared. The moment was too big
Because you just said you can’t win with kids. So they should get some guys with mustaches. Or beards. Or something like that.
Gunnar hit .500 last year even though they were swept. Were you looking into his eyes then?
I guess my point is you don't need to tank year after year like Balt did to get all these high draft picks.

Baltimore kids in the playoffs
-Gunnar 0-7 4 k's
-Adley 1-8 2 k's
-Westburg 1-6 1 k
-Cowser 1-7 3 Ks

Boy would Bob really own us if he spent money on the team! No, Bobby, no, definitely don't do that!
Not a chance in hell!
Go Mets! That is all.
Downvote X Infinity = My thoughts on your post
The Mets can lose in the NLDS! Back to neutral!
Padres losing Musgrove is a big blow to their chances to beat the Dodgers.

I admire how they are run but I despise them too much to ever root for them.
Fair

This was the Tigers first winning season in the last decade.
Also, they sold at the deadline and just went on a nutso run. Not really any way to emulate the season they've had.
Chourio is a beast, and he's just getting started.

If Skenes is smart (and I'm guessing he's well-advised), he'll laugh at every feeble attempt we'll make to eat into his FA years.
There is a win-win option where we buy out a year or two that provides him security on the chance that he gets injured but allows him to still reach FA in his 20s, about the same age as when Cole reached FA and signed his mega-deal. would a wise business decision be to offer equity in the team?
From what I understand, he’s gone out of his way to run out minority owners over the years.
who are the other minority owners?
You want BN to give up some of his profits?
The guys in the stealth helicopter that wear the black pajamas are on their way to your house as I type this....
Joe is easy for root for, but he gets so dinged up. Rooting for all the small markets!
True
