Morning Rundown: Bubba Chandler Promoted To Altoona
Will make his final start of the season on Friday
Bubba Chandler really took off after the All-Star break while playing for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, putting together a string of starts that really flash his enormous upside.
In the meantime, he crossed over not only 100 strikeouts on the season, but also with innings pitched.
So, to reward him for the progress he made over the course of the season, the Pirates promoted him to Double-A Altoona to make his final start of the year on Friday.
It actually becomes a very interesting matchup against the Harrisburg Senators, who have some of the top hitting prospects in the game, including second overall pick this year - Dylan Crews.
Overall on the season Chandler has posted a 9-4 record, with a 4.75 ERA with 120 strikeouts and 51 walks in 106 innings with the Grasshoppers.
Jase Bowen To Altoona
Chandler won’t be the only player from the Grasshopper roster that will join the Curve to close out the season, as outfielder Jase Bowen was also promoted as well.
The 23-year-old outfielder put up one of the best offensive seasons in the South Atlantic League, leading the league in RBI and among the best in home runs and stolen bases.
I have a story on both players coming out over the next couple of days from my time in Greensboro last week.
Other Roster Moves
With Bowen coming up, the Curve needed to free up a spot in the outfield and they did so by promoting Matt Gorski to Indianapolis. It will be his second straight promotion to Triple-A late in the season, with an injury cutting his time short last year.
Right handed pitcher Darvin Garcia moves up from Bradenton to Greensboro to take Chandler’s roster spot. They also activated Maikol Escotto from the Development List to fill in Bowen’s spot.
