after tuesday, we should be platooning Mason Martin and Malcom Nunez at first base for the rest of the year

Does anyone know if solo has a changeup? Keith law was saying that developing one, or a different third pitch, will be key for his ability to turn a mlb lineup over. Seems like his funky arm slot from the left side should give him good potential for big arm side fade

He does. Pretty sure it’s his principal secondary pitch.

If anybody’s checking the FCL this AM, they’re finishing yesterday’s suspended game first. MiLB.com hasn’t figured it out yet.

From Johnny D on Twitter

,Three Pittsburgh Pirates prospects were named to the Dominican Summer League All-Star game. Outfielder Juan Machado, RHP Carlos Castillo and Outfielder Tony Blanco Jr. Game will be played tomorrow.’

Blanco has top shelf power potential. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

How did I miss our #2 draft pick?

SS Mitch Jebb

Game stats: 3 for 5, one run, one walk, one steal

Season stats: .500/.556/.625, one double, one steal, two games

Check those exit velocities, only one that broke 90mph was a ground out.

Kevin Newman, Part Deux was my ‘scouting report’ at the time. I have NO idea why we drafted him so high.

No way he stays at short for the long term, they probably should give him a try in center sooner rather than later.

At the plate he looks oddly similar to Bae.

Same frenetic energy on the bases, too.

Can he play CF? 😂😂😂

This is definitely what we were afraid of

What are your guys thoughts on Rivas? From the box scores, he looks pretty good. Is he deserving of a promotion but maybe blocked right now from the guys in Bradenton?

Expand full comment
WTM's avatar

Severe problems with the slow stuff. That’s why he’s in the FCL. Often spectacular defensively.

Do you think he can stick at SS?

Expand full comment
WTM's avatar

Easily. The last two years I’ve seen more highlight reel plays from him than any other ten guys put together.

Thats good stuff! Hoping he learns to hit off speed, but stick at short is a big plus

from what I saw while he was in Bradenton, definitely looks the part of a shortstop. But like WTM said, swing and miss stuff was rough against slow stuff.

Rivas? If he plays below Bradenton,

I am not following them.

Yeah he's in the FCL. He's been mentioned before as a guy to watch, so that combined with his stats had me curious.

I was thinking about heading out to Harrisburg with a friend, but decided that 97 degrees and high humidity was too much for this old man. Plus, like with the Pirate game, it POURED here for about 30 minutes!!

This is definitely not a slam against AM, but thanks to a reader suggestion, I now use the MiLB app to check boxes every morn. Sullivan and Kellington did NOT have good nights.

But Termarr and White had good on base days. Sightlar ONLY got ONE hit and K’d twice and is now only batting .400.

I feel like Kellington had two bad moments that made the box score look a little rougher than he actually did. I check MiLB app almost more than I check text messages from my family, so I get it lol.

That’s all I have to go by. But, like Keller last night a good pitch here and there keeps the box score line from blowing up. So, your type of comment is appreciated for that behind the scenes stuff.

Is Mason Martin’s promotion to Indy only until Nunez gets back off of rehab?

He wasnt exactly tearing it up at altoona so im not sure how he will fare in indy!

That’s a solid question actually because they already have Shackelford. Will certainly have to keep an eye on that.

If Choi gets traded, I think they might call up Martin and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. If he can't make contact they can easily dfa him but I think they will give him a chance in the show.
