Morning Rundown: Carter Bins multi-hit game, Adolis Garcia hits walk-off
Carter Bins picked up a pair of hits in the AFL and the Rangers win by a walk-off home run by Adolis Garcia.
Carter Bins hasn’t played much during the Arizona Fall League, but he’s made every moment count. In eight games, the Pirates’ catching prospect has 12 hits after picking up two Friday night for Salt River.
Six of those 12 hits have gone for extra bases, hitting a double in his most recent game. He now has a slash of .375/.412/.688.
A catcher by trade, Bins has seen most of his time as the designated hitter for the Rafters. He was initially acquired in the Tyler Anderson trade a couple of years ago.
Jase Bowen and Jack Brannigan also played but combined to go 0-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts. Bowen drove in a run, his 16th of the fall, on a groundout in the second inning.
If game one indicated what we are in line for, this World Series could go down as one of the all-time greats. Arizona erased a 2-0 deficit, jumping ahead 5-3 in the fifth and holding that lead until the ninth inning.
Corey Seager hit a game-tying, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, forcing extra innings.
After both teams breezed through the 10th inning, Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off solo home run to give Texas the 1-0 series lead.
Both teams nearly got five innings out of both starters, especially when you could have made a case they could have been pulled earlier; it may turn out to be huge with this game going extra innings.
Game two has a similar expected start time of 8:03 pm ET, with Merrill Kelly (2-1, 2.65 ERA) and Jordan Montgomery (3-0, 2.16 ERA) the expected starting pitchers.
We wrapped up our ‘best of’ series on Friday, looking at some of the best off-speed pitches in the Pirates system.
At some point this weekend, I’ll try to organize everything into one page with everything linked together to make it easier to read everything.
I am afraid the snakes blew a huge opportunity to steal one last night. Hoping for at least 6 games in the series but we will see...
Bins has really done well in the AFL. Bowen playing 1B and Brannigan at SS were hitless, but they played a big part defensively with Brannigan throwing home from SS on a grounder to get the runner out late in the one run game, and Bowen assisting on cutting down another runner trying to score late in the game on a triple where the lead runner was thrown out on an 8-4-3-5 play. Bowen and Brannigan and the Pitcher also turned another 3-6-1 DP in the game.
