Miss Dreker having an outlet for this stuff.

Did the Pirates try to make Luis Ortiz into a rock star too fast or was he more of a one hit wonder? He was never a top prospect and his overall numbers in the numbers in the minors are not eye-popping. Then I am guessing he caught fire in the minors before the Pirates surprisingly brought him up late 2022. He had some major league games where he just mowed people down. Now he just has me baffled.

Man, I wish I knew...he lost 2.5 mph on his heater. When he first came up, they couldn't hit him. His debut vs the Reds he was hitting 100+ multiple times and I believe only gave up one hit in 5+. He went into Yankee Stadium and blanked the Yanks.

The difference in 99 mph and 96 mph is huge.

Please tell me Luis Ortiz hasn’t allowed 9 of anything, especially walks, in less than 4 innings of work!

Yea I guess Grammarly doesn't understand baseball lingo and 'fixed' it and I didn't catch that it 'fixed' it before I posted it. Don't know why it changed hits to walks but it did.

It’s nine hits no walks.

That’s a bit disturbing.

Thanks for doing this. A bit confused about Ortiz' line; 9 walks or zero? I'm assuming it's 9 hits?

Any news on if Oneil Cruz is allowed to play?

The Pirates are still deciding. He wants to play.

John Dreker would know. No idea if he’s writing anywhere now.

I checked in on the old place to see if he was there, but only saw sporadic articles by TW with no comment sections. Made me a bit sad.

Agreed--John's interest in focusing on things like draft prospects and winter league results and then providing an appropriate level of detail was appreciated. If he's looking for a place to write, he'd be a valuable free agent for a blog to sign :)
