No love for Joe despite being productive AND misused

I couldn’t disagree more on both counts. First he was productive from both sides of the plate most of the season. Like the rest of the lineup Joe took June off, otherwise, his numbers look real good, and he is controllable for another four years. He was used optimally. The perfect fourth outfielder, if we ever get three good outfielders ahead of him.

So you think he’s unproductive AND optimally used?

best thing Joe could do for his career is go to mexico next week and return to catching

only way Joe makes the team is if they drop Delay and let Tank play as second in the depth chart at catcher

prefer Andujar over Joe

Bae and Palacios are clearly locks for the bench

What are the odds Selby ends up a Ray or Yankee with an era around 2?

Excellent trade to get Connor Joe for Nick Garcia. It has been a career year for Joe and I doubt that Garcia was ever in the Pirates plans - the first 3 picks in 2020 were Nick Gonzales, Carmen Mlodzinski, and Jared Jones; Garcia was our 4th pick.

Colin Selby has been a very strong draft pick considering he was picked by the Pirates in the 16th Round, Overall Pick No. 474 in 2018. Still only 25 and the exposure he and others are getting this year should help in their overall development. Another late inning big thrower getting exposure is Hunter Stratton, 26. These opportunities should pay future dividends if they stay with the Pirates or are dealt to others looking for late inning help out of the BP.

Clearly Selby is in the plan long term. He’s being given every opportunity which is fine by me. But why oh why at such leverage points???

Because the Pirates are not a good team: at least not as high-caliber as the Cubs. Did Shelton throw the game last night on purpose? No. Did he try Selby in that situation knowing that if Selby couldn't get the job done, it hurt the Cubs? Yes.
