Had to the post the following: the opening paragraphs of a Denver Post article on the current state of the Rockies, who are 3-16 and have lost seven in a row:
“We’re torn. On the one hand the Rockies’ problems go far, far, far above manager Bud Black. The organizational rot starts at the top and permeates all the way to the roots. John McGraw couldn’t make Rox work in today’s NL West with Monfort’s [the owner] keep-it-in-the-family approach. (The AL Central, maybe. But the NL West? No way.)
There’s an argument that nobody could make silk purses out of [GM] Bill Schmidt’s rosters of sow ears, let alone Buddy.
On the other hand, a skipper overseeing sic straight losing seasons, with a seventh in the works, wouldn’t be tolerated by any MLB franchise that gives half a darn.”
Really pleased with the hitting at the GBO A+ level. Javier Rivas has somehow flipped the switch on what looked like an All-Field, No-Hit, SS. Always K/BB issues that were in the 4/1 or 5/1 levels, but jumped to over 8/1 last year. He found some additional power last year hitting 12 HR (1 for every 30 AB), and has bumped that this year to a HR every 12+ AB, and the K/BB is down to 4/1.
Others at A+ - Shalin Polanco, 21, is another guy who seemed to be lost at the plate in A who has shown a lot better contact so far this year. Same for Lonnie White, Jr who was struggling with pro pitching after dedicating to baseball just before being drafted. And, Esmerlyn Valdez, 21, is still young, but his 17 doubles/22 HR and .815 OPS in A, is continuing with 3 doubles/3 HR and 1.072 OPS in 47 AB in A+. I know GBO is a hitter's level, and no better place to develop some confidence in hitting for average and power.
Enmanuel Valdez is a VG fielding second baseman and he is tearing it up over the past 15 games - his bat needs to stay in the lineup. In 46 AB he has 3 doubles, 2 triples, a HR, 9 RBI, a .797 OPS and he has 7 BB and only 10 K's. A left hand hitting 2B with on base and pop. He is off to a fast start and we need to take full advantage.
Excellent outing by Paul Skenes who put about 38,000 fans in the seats yesterday. Wow, fans will pay for better baseball and bobble heads!
Valdez track record indicates he could be a legit MLB hitter IF they play him at 2nd. Gotta cut Pham or Fraz eventually for Horwitz so why not do it now and give Gorski a chance to be hot for 2 weeks
Frazier is getting starter number of AB's and is only worth $1.5 mil. We will get rid of him one way or another in July, so we have worked 25% of that $1.5 mil. Pham at $4+ mil is not going to happen and he is the type of hitter that could get hot and stay that way for a few months.
The latest scandal with Nuttin and his dimwits is they cut out the sound of the sell-the-team chants on the broadcast. They have the same magic with PR that Birdbrain has with hitters.
You could hear the chants faintly at times on the Cleveland broadcast. As the Pirates lose and these chants grow (if there is anyone at PNC to chant), the likelihood that we can finally be rid of the incompetents who run the organization grows. Chant away, I say.
Time for Suwinski to AAA. Gorski to MLB. Horwitz to 60-day DL. Reasses when Horwitz or Nicky G is ready.
No sense for Horwitz to go 60 day he’s starting his rehab in Bradenton next week
If Gorski comes up, I think a 40-man spot is needed.
They could just release Suckwinski. He will never me more than what he is now.

Sound familiar?
Half a darn? Under/over on how much of a darn Nuttin and Birdbrain give? I'm saying 1/50,000th.
Happy Easter everyone. Have a great day.
One more game in Greensboro and then heading home.

Better baseball by whom?
