Jakob Junis signed, elsewhere, which was disappointing... I recently looked him up after an NMR post that he was interesting and lingering around in free agency, then I became infatuated with him, maybe not infactuated, but curious and hopeful we may snag him... No such luck, back to my NFL draft prep🤷♂️
Fun article/concept at FG on teams leaking "we tried" on FAs (and the rare player like Tucker who is being auctioned off) to appease their fans, with this little blurb about our team:
"The White Sox, Marlins, Pirates, and Rockies are barely playing the same sport. They’re not competing for impact free agents and would never want their fans to get that impression, lest it raise expectations above their current level of negative infinity."
And since we know Bob won't spend for impact FAs, I'm glad we don't get phony "we tried" statements from the FO. I build up enough false hopes going into an offseason as it is.
It is truly an embarrassment to be mentioned in the company of those other three teams, because they are all staring at the very real possibility that they will again lose between 100 and 115 games this year. Almost no way for any of that threesome to avoid that.
The Pirates have more than enough pitching to keep themselves right around the .500 mark - what happens with the bats will determine if the Pirates go down the stretch with a chance for the playoffs or whether we finish with a 3rd straight 76-86 record. As close as we are, ownership refuses to at least stay near-equal in player spending with Cincy and Milwaukee, two Metro Area's of lesser populations than Pittsburgh. Time for the Nuttings to go elsewhere!
Dauri Moreta was traded to the Pirates from Cincy for Kevin Newman. Good trade for both teams.
His first year with the Pirates in 2023 was excellent, and he missed all of 2024 after TJ Surgery in March of 2024. Having a talented BP arm that will be ready around June should be a positive for the Pirates.
Is Hunter Stratton projected to be able to start the year with the Pirates or are they thinking more of some time at AAA first?
Thank you for the article from Greg Macafee re his interview with Spencer Horwitz, the surgery, and his rehab - sounds very positive.
sources saying Bart and Mitch Keller are on the trade block

Instead, we get "showing interest" statements on every tier C free agent until those are gone and GMBC gives an MLB contract to a minor-league player.
