Morning Rundown: Diamondbacks add third baseman, free agent pitcher rumors
A pre-Thanksgiving day trade and free agent pitching rumors.
Fresh off making the World Series, the Arizona Diamondbacks are already making moves to improve their roster.
On Wednesday, they acquired third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Carlos Vargas and Seby Zavala.
Suarez, 32, hit 21 home runs last year for the Mariners but has four career seasons of 30 or more.
The Diamondbacks got some of the worst production out of the third base position last year, with a collective 75 wRC+. That was the fourth-worst mark in the majors.
Zavala is a light-hitting catcher who put up above-average framing and blocking metrics. Vargas put up a 5.79 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched in the majors last year but put up a nearly 50% whiff rate with his cutter.
According to Jon Heyman, the New York Yankees could be ‘looking’ at a reunion with Jordan Montgomery.
The left-handed Montgomery broke into the majors with the Yankees, pitching from 2017 to 2022 in New York before getting traded to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Montgomery was one of the stars of the Texas Rangers’ run to the World Series after acquiring him at the trade deadline.
Every Monday during the offseason, we will be doing a mailbag article. You can send your questions to bucsondeckqa@gmail.com or leave a comment with ‘mailbag’ written in it. The email would be easier to track, but you can comment, and I will add it to the list.
I just hate it that the Yankees, Dodgers, and Braves pretty much get what they want. I want Montgomery! What would it take to keep the Yankees from signing him? Break the bank! Be bold! Sign him. Snell too.
Why do I have a bad feeling the Pirates will announce a Noah Syndergaard one year deal for 8 million and hope for a bounce back. The pitching market seems robust and I’m getting a little worried the Pirates will end up with much less than we were hoping for
