Athletics claim Elvis Alvarado, Scherzer signs with new team
After being designated for assignment by the Pirates to make room for Adam Frazier on the 40-man roster, Elvis Alvarado was claimed by the Athletics on Thursday.
Signed to a split major league deal earlier in the offseason, Alvarado spent last year with the Miami Marlins, striking out 74 batters in 50.2 innings pitched but also walking 40.
He’s been pitching in the Dominican Winter League and doing well. In 19.1 innings pitched, he’s allowed just two earned runs while striking out 26 batters and walking nine.
Max Scherzer has signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays worth $15.5 million. He pitched nine games with the Texas Rangers last year while returning from injury due to back and nerve issues.
A three-time Cy Young winner, Scherzer has 216 wins in his career, posting a 3.16 ERA and striking out 3,407 over 2,878 innings while pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and the Rangers.

I think Indy still needs a manager.
So the Royals offered Santander 3/66. Those filthy rich teams are just making the sport impossible for mom and pop teams like the Pirates.
