So Cruz rips a run-scoring single, and then the Padres figured out how to beat the Pirates. The formula is very simple... just walk Cruz and pitch to everyone else. He saw 2 pitches in the strike zone the rest of the game.
Davis was such a nut. He was trying to get hit by pitches. In right field he was trying to throw out every runner. Any time he was on base, he was dancing trying to disrupt the pitcher. Now he is playing smarter, but somewhere along the way lost his mojo.
There are differing accounts of whether the 20 year old man who fell the other night was drunk. The Pirates insist he was not. Odd statement, as that would be the club's best legal defense. Otherwise the height of the railing is going to be the legal issue that Nutting will end up paying for imo.
The CBS report is his friend legally bought drinks 4 times for the 4 person party, 4 beers and 3 surfsides. Not enough to be drunk. Yeah it's going to come down to the railing issue.
Again, the railing was 10 inches above code. I don’t see the Pirates as vulnerable there. If I’m the Pirates I make a significant contribution to his long-term care as a good will gesture. I think they can afford that.
There’s also the fact that the rail was probably at a typical height for the industry, and accidents of this sort are close to nonexistent. Very hard to make a case for negligence without evidence that the rail failed to comply with code or with some industry standard.
I don't like the Apple TV coverage very much, but one thing they hit on is the leap betw AAA and the Majors is larger than ever. They emphasized it several times at how good MLB pitching has become. So for that one subject I totally agree.
In one segment of the broadcast, the announcers seemed to offer sympathy to us long-suffering fans. Greg Brown otoh seems to think it's our duty to cheer the team no matter how much they lose. I know that helps him keep his job, and I like Greg. But it was still refreshing to watch a broadcast and not be told multiple times how we should be at the ballpark.
Anyone know how Plaz is looking defensively this year? His hitting looks improved by contact and exit velocity. It seemed he had some bad luck earlier in the year with some at em' bombs and recently started getting some elevated.
I'm hoping Plaz and Alfonso get a promotion come June if they both keep hitting, maybe Ramirez can also.
Plaz has been solid. Hard to judge his receiving much because most of the Bradenton pitchers have no idea where the ball is going. Has a 31% CS.
At least he’s catching a lot. His 15 starts are already nearly half his career high. For a long time I wondered whether the Pirates really considered him a C prospect. Seems clear now.
I think he's having a quite breakout, cutting down the strikeouts, constantly hitting the ball hard. If the extra base hits keep coming, his OPS will skyrocket.
Just changed the fantasy baseball team name from Redus and Weep to Bream On. Seeing his Donruss card picture every time I check my team reminds me that they once were competing at a high level. And I'm exercising demons of that fateful day.
What kind of commissioner allows people to change their team name after the season has already started? Seriously, the orginal team name make me laugh. The second one hurts for me to read.
The kind that I've known for over 40 years. The league includes his dad and son. Another budd and his son. Plus a few others. The buddy and son are the classic change line up quarterly. Dudes on IL still starting.
Will be interesting to see if Peguero gets consistent playing time at SS and IKF takes starts at 2b or if they just brought him up here to have a front row seat to watch our illustrious vets not run out popups, cover bases and pantomime masturbation.
They brought him up because IKF is hobbled with a "lower-body issue." Peguero will probably be up only a couple days and I doubt he'll play much, if at all.
This is not the player I would pound the table for. Peggy is at most a reserve UT guy. Having said that, sure I'd love him to start for IKF even when IKF injury resolves. Maybe IKF has a groin and will go on the IL.

The ump is having serious difficulties distinguishing strikes from balls.
Sanford is the new Davis. Just got hit for the second time in three trips.
Right after fouling one off that same foot. He ended up leaving the game after the inning was over (stayed in to run the bases).
Glad to see rookie ball pitching is on point as usual. Just please don’t get your wrist broken in your first professional game.

Not sure about the rail. Supposedly it was 10” above code.
If he was drunk and underage, and the concessions served him, they’d have a problem. If someone else bought and gave it to him, they shouldn’t.

With another bullpen blow-up, it's time to call up Rainey and Yean. Triolo and Holderman down.
There's Jack hitting the cover off another ball!

Axiel Plaz and Kruz Schoolcraft will lead the Pirates to the World Series. You heard it here first!
I hope I didn't jinx him, 2 k's so far today.
He’s still only 19. I really hope this shift back to catcher is indeed the long-term plan.
FYI

Thanks and enjoy the day.

Two years ago I was Bell Ringers in honor of Jay.
Those type of leagues are the absolute best. Especially, when they keep you close to your best friends.
Agree. Some still live in Pittsburgh and some now Florida. I live about halfway between. Good ole poop talking keeps the good times rolling.
I’ve never been able to top my buddy’s from years ago: Bumpin’ Ugglas.
The Giles brothers and Danny U weren't afraid of an arse injection. Brett Boone is another. Or maybe they all just had the exact same build.
Excited to see the FCL boys get started! Also while you're in Bradenton can you find out what happened to Will Taylor?
Will be interesting to see if Peguero gets consistent playing time at SS and IKF takes starts at 2b or if they just brought him up here to have a front row seat to watch our illustrious vets not run out popups, cover bases and pantomime masturbation.
Maybe I missed it, did Pham accept his suspension, or is it still awaiting appeal?

This is why the organization sucks. Give the guy a shot for cryin out loud.
