New sheetz sponsorship pushes a trade through: LouBob, tommy pham, and LHRP tanner banks from the white sox for bubba, termarr, solo, and lonnie white jr
And white sox hang up. The net IMO really is those 4 for LouBob as Pham is a free agent and Banks may just be another fungible reliever. I think the cost will be high and Bubba would have to be in it. Personally (why I exclude Pham), any trade needs to help the Pirates beyond this year if it includes any of our 'big' chips and Bubba and Termarr are still 2 of our biggest chips.
We will just have a gentleman's disagreement on that one. White Sox in a complete tear down. My case: Falter has shown good stuff as a 5th starter for 3 months and is already burning his 2nd year of control and unless somebody tells me something else, Bubba still has tantalizing stuff and if stars align top of rotation stuff and has not even been on the 40 man yet.
No posts about the Rickwood game? WTH is the matter with this board?? That was an epic celebration of a bygone era. It came far too late, should have happened long before the Iowa field of dreams......but better late than never by MLB.
Jon Batiste killed the pre-game, really talented dude.
It was awesome and would love to see more like it. On a more somber note, hearing Reggie Jackson describe what he went through always saddens me. That is many of our parents generation that behaved that way which is not a 'lifetime' ago.
Also, if you're interested in oral histories of black players breaking the color barrier with minor league teams across the South during the '50s, you might enjoy the book Brushing Back Jim Crow--I found it really interesting how different communities reacted and how different players and their teammates responded.
It was fascinating to me reading the Clemente/Stargell/Aaron biographies and how their experiences were similar but very different in their prep. Clemente came from being treated as an equal and was just shocked at his treatment. Stargell came from the west coast and experienced some mistreatment in the northwest but for the most part was treated ok as long as he didn't go where he shouldn't. He was surprised at how segregated and directly he was mistreated but at least had read about it. Aaron grew up in the South and although he was treated miserably, he at least was accustomed to it and 'mentally' prepared for what came his way.
Are you planning to do a "Probable Promotions" article. Seems like it's time for a mass set of shifts and it would be great to know what you think will be happening and who we should watch.
I'll say I added a snippet in one of the observations. Could probably do a quick and dirty one that would mostly entail promoting half of Greensboro and FCL up, but then having to reconfigure everywhere else.
It’s a good idea, but I’d call it “Promotion Candidates.” Hard to make much sense of a lot of their personnel decisions. (I say this as I’m watching Tony Blanco sitting on the bench again.)
The quality of Sheetz food has really gone downhill. Last time I ordered a sub, the bread was so stale and hard, damn near not edible. The only thing I like about Sheetz is a convenient beer run and they stock a decent number of IPAs.
So back in the day, the bread was either freshly baked or at the very least, pulled and thawed that day. Now that stuff comes from a DC center and who knows how old it is.
I’ve always found our food mediocre compared to other parks I’ve visited. Citi Field for example was fantastic. But, a few of the newer items we have at PNC are solid: the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is solid, and the nachos from Nachorita are good. Unfortunately you’ll need a second mortgage on your house to pay for either. Also, OTOH, one of the few really good items they had, the regular nachos, were ruined by switching cheeses (presumably the new stuff is cheaper).
It will be interesting to see if he’s a better version of his father. Jack had that one great offensive season, but otherwise he put the bat on the ball and not a ton happened. Just glancing at this minor league stats, I see many doubles, not many homers and not many walks, but with averages over .300 —- kind of like Freddy Sanchez. That’s very good assuming that his defense is as advertised.
I Cubs starter last night was Pirate draftee Trey Supak. It's been 10 years since they drafted him. He is much larger than he was then. Cubs bullpen is a mess, so maybe he will get a shot with the big club at some point.
SNP televised the game last night...I sporadically watched it. From what I saw Woodford (good bourbon) looked like he could potentially be a depth option. I think they will need guys like him and German in the dog days.
Congrats to the Grasshoppers, and probably farewell to a some players moving up to AA. The GBO Starting Pitching has been lights out down this stretch to finish out the 1st half and stay in 1st Place. Jersey Shore was matching them win for win until last night.
Dominic Perachi, from that college powerhouse Salve Regina, was lights out. Some scout did a great job identifying the 6'4" 195 LHSP to be drafted by the Pirates in the 11th Round in 2022. He was promoted early this year from A+ to AA for a few games - probably injuries at AA being the reason? Since coming back from AA he has been excellent, and could get another shot at AA before the season ends.
I'm planning to see the Grasshoppers on Saturday so selfishly hope those promotions are delayed until Monday ;), which I'm guessing will be the case. Of course, seeing new guys who get promoted from Bradenton would also be fine.
As an alum of the same HS as Mueth, I was psyched about the pick. Kid is looking very promising so far!

swap bubba for falter

I agree that falter isnt enough. Maybe we need to pull a gavin sheets or andrew vaughn instead of pham to give more of a boost past this year?
oh i would think at this point Falter has more value than Bubba?
We will just have a gentleman's disagreement on that one. White Sox in a complete tear down. I am in agreement with you on this but a good gm knows how to pull wool
You have to assume you are then dealing with a bad GM.. I believe this one would take a lot of wool.
my sources are saying Falter to Arizona for Drew Jones

Also, that Jackson story was as real as it gets. He didn't hold back at all.
Loved the half inning when they simulated a 1950s-era broadcast.
Didn’t catch much of the game because the Copa America with Messi was on.
That was really clever, great job by production staff!

I just watched the interview and agree with everything you said. Sadly, some of what Jackson faced is still around, just not as visible.
Jon Batiste, product of Nola!

Pirates announce Sheetz as the new uniform sponsor.
there is not one sheetz location inside city limits

They can open the first one inside PNC Park.
Just a bunch of Sunoco's

better than the ballpark food inside pnc
thank god i can bring in whatever i want to eat

there are enough good options downtown to bring in the park
I’ll second that. The Yard is good. Numerous taco places. Numerous pizza places.
two crabcakes and fries at the oysterhouse for $12 bucs
that greek fastfood in market square is the bomb
was hoping for fatheads logo with an eye patch on the fat guy
at least that would match the other shoulder
maybe that means we´ll be taking on some salary next month?
I wonder how much they get for a deal like this? Is it a one shot deal? Is it an annuity?
I wondered the same thing lol.
have yinz noticed how good Jacob Wilson has been?
like a rocket
already mashing AAA
Well a .455 batting average is ok at double A, but in triple A he has dipped 80 points. Only hitting .375 there.
dude only struck out 4 times in his whole college career
"striking out is not ok"
In Ben’s system, you don’t get promoted until you whiff 4 times in a game.

OT - Am I the only one who can’t get the “like” (heart icon) function to work?
(Knowing - appreciating - the collective sense of humor on this board, I halfway expect about 30 likes for this post 😎)
did the username say bmcferren above the like button?
like😂
You must have an iPhone
An iPod, but yeah, iOS
I just gave you a like with my iPhone.
And I reciprocated with my android/samsung
Yep, depends what device you use.
nope.
me neither. :|
No carrots for you Wabbit.

That is a good bourbon. My buddy got me a bottle of Woodford Reserve for my baby shower lol
Type of bourbon you drink neat.
