Morning Rundown: Griffin is Pipeline's top prospect, more draft signings
Griffin top prospect in baseball on MLB.com, Pirates sign more draft picks.
With the graduation of Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony, and thanks to their recent update, Konnor Griffin is now the number one prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline.
He celebrated with a four-hit game for the Greensboro Grasshoppers, driving in two, stealing a pair of bases, and scored a run.
In 30 games for the Grasshoppers, Griffin is hitting .319/.422/.487 with four home runs and 19 RBI with 18 stolen bases. He’s at 44 stolen bases for the season.
The Pirates have come to agreements with four more of their draft picks, and now have 16 signed. On Thursday, they have come to terms with the following players:
C Easton Carmichael (3rd round)
1B Jared Jones (9th round)
3B Brent Iredale (7th round)
RHP Dylan Mathiesen (13th round)
That’s five draft picks left unsigned, all from the prep side of things: Angel Cervantes, Connor Hamilton, McLane Moody, Nick Frusco, and Carter Gwost.
The Pittsburgh Pirates open up a three-game weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at home. They are coming off a sweep of the Detroit Tigers and now have a record of 42-61.
Mike Burrows will kick the series off, with Andrew Heaney and Paul Skenes will follow him on Saturday and Sunday.

Gonna put this here, too -- Moody and Gwost signed.
Unrelated to anything here, but just watched a lengthy interview of Mickey Moniak on Intentional Talk. Having a really nice season at 27 for the Rockies. Shows how hard baseball is compared to other sports that a 1-1 has struggled so hard to establish himself as an everyday player in the league. Funny, well adjusted dude for someone that I’m sure has listened to bust talk interminably for a long time. Rooting for continued success for the guy. Random nonsensical post over.
