Morning Rundown: Home Run Barrage Continues For Greensboro, Mlodzinski To IL
The offensive outburst continues for Greensboro as they hit four more home runs on Saturday and Carmen Mlodzinski heads to the injured list to make room for Osvaldo Bido
It’s been a very excited week down in Greenville, where the Greensboro Grasshoppers will look to wrap up their six-game set against the Drive with a win and a series victory.
Offensively, through five games, the Grasshoppers have put 42 runs on the board in five games, thanks in large part to the 17 home runs they have hit so far.
Of the five games they have played so far this week, they’ve scored at least seven runs in four of them.
Seven different Grasshoppers have gone deep, five of them have done so multiple times.
Jack Brannigan - 5
Josiah Sightler - 3
Jase Bowen - 3
Brenden Dixon - 2
Shawn Ross - 2
Sammy Siani - 1
Termarr Johnson - 1
Greensboro has been led by Jack Brannigan, who has been absolutely tearing the cover off the ball. Saturday was the first night he didn’t hit a home run. Termarr Johnson hit his first High-A home run on Saturday, and Jase Bowen became the first 20/20 player in the Pirates system this week.
After blowing through Bradenton, Josiah Sightler is still mashing in High-A and Shawn Ross now has double-digit home runs this season.
When the Pirates recalled Osvaldo Bido, it made the next move fairly obvious. Since he wasn’t on assignment long enough before being called back up, the corresponding move would have to be someone going to the injured list.
That person was Carmen Mlodzinski, who was placed on the injured list, but it doesn’t appear to be serious, more of a ‘phantom’ IL stint, since that was the only way to bring Bido back up.
First overall pick Paul Skenes will make his affiliated ball debut this coming Tuesday, for the Bradenton Marauders. He pitched in the FCL earlier this week and struck out fellow first round pick Walter Jenkins in his lone inning of work.
