Morning Rundown: Jack Brannigan hits double for Salt River
Salt River loses penultimate regular season game.
Things will be coming down to the wire in the Arizona Fall League. While the Surprise Saguaros look like they will be cruising to the finals, the two spots in the play-in game are potentially up for grabs.
With their win on Tuesday, Scottsdale likely has one of those spots locked up, with the Thursday season finale between Salt River and Peoria potentially deciding the other.
Salt River didn’t do themselves any favors, dropping their game on Tuesday against the team with the worst record, the Mesa Solar Sox.
Jase Bowen went 0-3 with a walk but stole both second on third after getting on with the free pass. That gives him five stolen bases this fall, and the walk brings his OPS to .878.
It hasn’t been the best fall for Jack Brannigan, but he’s sprinkled in some big hits here and there. He went 1-3 on the night with a double and later scored, although he did strikeout again.
JC Flowers was the lone pitcher to get into the game for the Pirates, and while he’s worked his ERA under 4.00, the walks are still a thing, and he now has 11 in 11 innings pitched.
Salt River has the day off Wednesday before their last guaranteed game on Thursday.
Yesterday was a multi-feature day, as we had the last AFL update before the season's final week.
We also looked at some of the free agents that have been talked about as potential fits with the Pirates and if they make sense.
There seemed to be enough interest to give it a test run, so starting next week, we will do a mail bag/Q and A-type article.
If it gains traction, we will make it a regular feature and get some of the other writers involved as well.
