Morning Rundown: Jack Suwinski Goes Deep, The Weekend Ahead
Jack Suwinski hit his first home run since July 24, and my weekend ahead in Greensboro.
To say it’s been a tough stretch for Jack Suwinski may be a massive understatement. He’s always been a streaky hitter, but this past month has been particularly rough for the outfielder.
Before Wednesday night, the last time he had hit a home run was July 24 against the San Diego Padres, the team that drafted him.
In the time between that, Suwinski slashed just .119/.282/.190 with a 35.9 K%, and a wRC+ of 41. If maybe you can salvage one thing, is that he was still able to draw walks (16.5 BB%).
Suwinski is establishing himself as an actual three-true outcome hitter - going into last night’s game 53.6% of his plate appearances have either been a walk, home run, or strikeout.
Thursday I will be heading to Greensboro to watch the rest of the Grasshoppers series against the Hickory Crawdads.
It’s going to be a fun and exciting opportunity, one I didn’t think I’d be able to do this season. Life has a way of hitting hard sometimes, but it’s awesome to get away for a couple of days just to watch some baseball.
While I’m gone, nothing really will change. You’ll still get a Morning Rundown, along with a Gameday thread and daily feature. More than likely, the daily feature will be Greensboro related, probably along the lines of an observation based article.
When I get back, I hope to have some fun stuff to put together, depending on how the trip goes.

60 years ago today, I attended my first MLB game. Pirates v. Reds at Forbes Field.
Bucs lost 6-0....first batter Pete Rose....first hit Frank Robinson...first Pirate hit Dick Schofield. Inside the park HR off the flagpole in left center by Tommy Harper. Jim O'Toole beat Bob Friend.
I was hooked. I left Pittsburgh in 1965 but somehow still follow this team.....(am I crazy?)
Game 2 of DSL chip just popped up on MiLB scoreboard. Starts in 15 mins!
