Listening to the postgame NS9 show, and they said over last 22 games the Pirates have scored the fewest runs in MLB. Something like 2.5 runs/game. 22 games is not a SSS, it’s an indication something needs to change.
The FO response to this epidemic of lousy hitting has been to exchange Davis for Grandal. It’s well past time to sacrifice some defense for offense.
It’s well past time to give Nick G, Peggy, and/or Bae a chance to jumpstart this offense. This team can’t afford to have two defensive first IF in Triolo and Williams. Pick one and send down or DFA the other.
Patiently waiting for Reynolds, Hayes, Jack, Cruz and others to get it going isn’t going to cut it. BC needs to make some moves. Now!
I know it's Sunday morning, but you are preaching to the choir my friend. The same thing has been said multiple times in multiple places including local newspapers and talk shows. No one is listening. At least no one who has any authority to do something about it.
Possible moves are so obvious one has to wonder what the motive is for continuing this ridiculous path to the NL Central cellar. Cherington's an obstinate guy and no arguments regardless of how logical will get through until he believes it was his idea. Like you I hope that comes sooner rather than later because this hole the Pirates continue to dig will be very hard to climb out of.
I was worried about them scoring runs before they added MAT and declared Triolo the winner of the 2B derby. Beyond the obvious with Triolo, Brandon Belt is still out there. We could desperately use a bat like that.
An understandable point considering Lamb is already in the organization. However, Belt has recent MLB success vs RH pitching. Lamb has been below average for awhile now.
I personally would try to sign Belt, but it ain’t my money.
You’re also getting the best of both worlds, ideally, keeping Lamb in the organization. I’d assume if you try Lamb first, you’re DFAing him to get Belt later. That also assumes someone doesn’t sign Belt in the interim. Minor points perhaps, but, given the state of first base in the organization I’d prefer we have all the depth we can get on our hands on.
Jones is now second in the majors in xFIP. In first is Jack Flaherty, the bounce-back candidate many of us wanted Cherington to sign in the offseason (and that supposedly we pursued but came up short).
If Skenes and Jones end up being co-aces we might become the Fl Marlins. Strong pitching, no offense and then no chance once the inevitable injuries happen.
Another interesting tidbit on Jones--he credits Harrington with helping him develop his improved fastball:

This account keeps popping up. It got some derision here earlier. I guess Jones wouldn't know how he learned his grip.

I would give Lamb a chance 1st before signing Belt.

Imagine Jones with a major league team behind him.
