Morning Rundown: Jase Bowen Reaches 20/20 Plateau
Greensboro outfielder becomes first in Pirates system to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases this season
During his time in Bradenton, Jase Bowen certainly flashed the skillset that you would need to be a 20/20 guy. In just over 200 career games in Single-A, the outfielder hit 28 home runs and stole 36 games for the Marauders.
Throw in the hitter friendly confines of First National Bank Field, and it probably wasn’t too much a surprise at what Bowen completed on Friday.
With a pair of stolen bases, he reached the 20/20 plateau, the first to do so in the Pirates system this year. Not only is he the first in the organization to do it, he becomes just the fifth in all of minor league baseball, joining Weston Wilson, Trey Cabbage, Joey Loperfido, and Kennedy Corona.
Bowen has had one of the best offensive seasons among Pirates’ prospects, as well as players in the South Atlantic League. His home/road splits aren’t nearly as wide as it generally is playing in Greensboro, with a .869/.804 mark each way.
MLB Pipeline did their midseason update, introducing the 2023 draft picks for each team, and the Pirates did pretty well in it.
They have six Top 100 prospects, which is in a tie for the most with in baseball with the Baltimore Orioles. First overall pick ranks at the top of the list for the Pirates, and third in all of baseball.
On the updated list, four of the recent draft picks made the new Top 30 - Skenes (1), Mitch Jebb (12), Zander Mueth (18) and Garret Forrester (24).

Watching 4th rounder Carlson Reed. The stuff is real. Command . . . not so much. One thing so obvious even I can see it is he often doesn’t finish his pitches. 2nd batter today, he got ahead 0-2, the four straight pitches sailed way high. Also seems to stop short or something on the breaking ball. Bounces over half of them in front of the plate. I’m thinking if he got on top better he might add velo. Folks here who are good with pitch mechanics should see this guy.
Here is ODB’s recap of the bucco game from last night... The Hamms and Heaven Hill B&B that I drank was much more enjoyable than the game. So yes, the Bucs do make me drink!
Seems like Hayes and BRey are starting to heat up and everyone else on the team, well they atleast put the uniform on correctly. (I’m trying to stay positive and that’s all I got)
