AM - did you see the BA note showing Tony Blanco Jr. as the breakout prospect?

Here was their note …

“The younger Blanco is a big man who can put a charge into a baseball. His average and 90th percentile exit velocities already hover around 93 and 114 mph, making him one of the hardest teenaged ball-strikers in the sport.”

Great article Anthony!

You’ve seen many of his games

Do you think he will be a CF in MLB?

Watching 4th rounder Carlson Reed. The stuff is real. Command . . . not so much. One thing so obvious even I can see it is he often doesn’t finish his pitches. 2nd batter today, he got ahead 0-2, the four straight pitches sailed way high. Also seems to stop short or something on the breaking ball. Bounces over half of them in front of the plate. I’m thinking if he got on top better he might add velo. Folks here who are good with pitch mechanics should see this guy.

just when bishop was starting to hit a little, they banish him back to the bench. truly odd

Suero acquisition was doom for him.

Which, btw, I’m liking pretty well having seen a lot of Suero the past week or so. Tiny SS, but I like his swing way better LH than RH.

good to see that suero is looking good. he was a nice addition in the trade. even still. i think some bradenton players should be moving up. like mcadoo. forester. no need for college players to be in low a right now imo

They have like 6,000 OFers besides White. And when it appears that your only offensive tool is taking a walk, it doesn’t bode well?

I remember being so excited when we nabbed him, but he is getting pushed aside because of injuries and Latino OF prospects.

Jase bowen is intriguing to me, though i dont know if he will hit enough in the upper levels to get to his tools

Or, in my case, I KNOW where I keep my tools, but I have NO idea how to use them,. 😹😹😹

Here is ODB’s recap of the bucco game from last night... The Hamms and Heaven Hill B&B that I drank was much more enjoyable than the game. So yes, the Bucs do make me drink!

Seems like Hayes and BRey are starting to heat up and everyone else on the team, well they atleast put the uniform on correctly. (I’m trying to stay positive and that’s all I got)

I would say the same about my OF 1910, far more enjoyable than the game!

Nice outings from Shortridge in AA and Diamond in A+. Jase Bowen has performed well enough at A+ to earn a promotion to AA. Now that the 20 HR/20 SB has been achieved at A+, and the team has little, if any, chance to make the playoffs, what is there to lose?

Expand full comment

Well, the last guy to do that in our system was Andres Alvarez. Whatever happened to him? 😙😙😙

Expand full comment

He did it last year at AA as a 25 year old, and as far as I know, he is still at AA as a 26 year old having a fairly poor year. Promote the 22 year old and let him see the speed of the game at that level in prep for 2024. Who knows, Bowen could also be a possibility for the AFL.

Expand full comment

As I have often said, I rarely get excited about a prospect until he does it at AA. If Jase can do it at Altoona (and I hope he does), I will take notice.

This guy was too young for AM to notice?

YDLS

Game stats: 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and one run scored

Season stats: .264/.358/.377, two homers, one triple, ten doubles, 22 stolen bases, and 25 RBIs (159 at-bats, or 44 games between the FCL and Low-A)

What is he like 20?

He looks older. You know how those Latinos fudge their birth certificates.

Everyone seems to be clamoring for Andujar, yet Domingo Leyba is hitting .355 with a 1.045 OPS. AND he plays 3b, 2b, etc. Just think what our lineup would look like with THOSE two in it. Then add in Palacios who was hitting .350ish an you have quite the lineup!

Oh wait…….

Expand full comment

Only 36 at bats for Leyba, I think.

Expand full comment

You think incorrectly. 😇😇😇

159 PAs.

Expand full comment

It was correct for Indy, the other at bats/ plate appearances came Altoona. He's hit very well both places.

Expand full comment

It doesn’t matter. The original point was about people crying for a guy who is a good minor league hitter. It doesn’t always translate esp for those guys in their upper 20s.

Expand full comment

Maybe we can trade him if he hasn't been on a 40 man this year to a needy team.

Expand full comment

Gotta wait for the offseason. And by then, he might end up signing with another org.

Expand full comment

He can still be traded, he hasn't been on a 40 man since last year. If another playoff contending team has an injury in the infield and needs depth it's possible to maybe get a lottery ticket for him. Probably not though.

Seattle could use some infield depth and are still in the hunt for a wild card.

We just signed Joe Perez. Leyba is superfluous. However, he is a career .215ish hitter in the majors. They’d be better off with JVM. 😎😎
