Morning Rundown: JC Flowers makes AFL debut, Jase Bowen hitting streak snapped
Flowers pitches three innings for Salt River
The Salt River rafters continued their AFL schedule on Thursday, beating the Surprise Saguaros by the score of 8-5.
Things got off to an explosive start, with nine total runs being scored in the first inning, six by Salt River. After putting up two more runs in the second inning, they were held off the score sheet after.
Keshawn Organs drove in three runs among his three hits on the night, and David McCabe drew three walks.
The bullpen calmed things down, and started to get to work, racking up the strikeouts as the game went on.
JC Flowers made his first appearance of the AFL season on Thursday, the last of the Pirates representatives to play, starting the game and going three innings.
It wasn’t the best of starts, giving up three runs in the first inning after walking the opening two hitters. Flowers threw 50 pitches on the night, mostly the fastball that sat around 90-92 mph.
He only picked up two whiffs on 18 total swings.
Jase Bowen’s early season hitting streak was cut short, going 0-for-4 on the night. While he remains hitless, Jack Brannigan drove in his first run of the season after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
MLBTR arb projections are out. Remarkably few eligible Pirates. They're not going to take much of a hit at all.
Borucki: 1.3M
Andujar: 2.2M
Keller: 6M
Brubaker: 2.28M
Bednar: 4.7M
Joe: 2M
Seems like the ideal time to extend Mitch & Bednar. Maybe frontload, like, a lot.
Our fall contingent this year appears to be the AFL equivalent of VanMeter, Hedges and Chavis.
