Morning Rundown: Joey Bart, Martin Perez hit the injured list
Bart, Perez to IL, Hayes and Koch to join team
After leaving the game on Sunday, both Joey Bart and Martin Perez were placed on the injured list on Tuesday.
The Pirates also reactivated Ke’Bryan Hayes off the injured list and selected the contract Grant Koch as the corresponding move.
Hayes hasn’t played since May 7, and was struggling before heading to the IL. He was just 2-23 during the month of May and has a .640 OPS on the season. Hayes also has just one home run.
Koch, 27, was the Pirates’ fifth round pick back in 2018 out of Arkansas. He’s a lifetime .203 in the minors with over 1,000 career at-bats, while spending the last two years in Triple-A.
The Pirates game on Tuesday was postponed due to weather, and will be made up as a part of a doubleheader on Wednesday.
That means Jared Jones and Paul Skenes will pitch on the same day.
Game 1 will begin at 12:40 pm ET, with the following one starting 40 minutes after the first. Jones will start game one, and then will be followed by Skenes.
According to Altoona manager Robby Hammock, Bubba Chandler will return off the injured list and start Altoona’s game on Wednesday.
Chandler left his last start after walking five batters in the first inning. While in the middle of an at-bat, Hammock and the trainer came out to check on Chandler, who would eventually exit the game.
After a strong finish to the season in 2023, Chandler hasn’t quite been able to repeat his success. He’s walked 18 batters in 24.2 innings pitched, but does have 30 punch outs.

Pirates also released Cam Junker, who was the biggest culprit in the nightmare that's been the Altoona bullpen. Junker looked pretty good before this year, but he had a bad time in the AZ Fall League last fall and that seemed to do him in. His numbers this year are so bad I can't print them on a family site.
Hopefully Chapman, who was pitching well for Gbo, will do better.
Finally let the fans back into the seats after lightning. Was like COVID baseball for a couple innings....weird.
