Morning Rundown: Juan Soto gets contract offers, Nolan Arenado position change, BA International 'Bonus Board'
Soto gets contract offers, Arenado willing to change position, BA
Five teams have reportedly made contract offers to free-agent outfielder Juan Soto on Tuesday.
Those teams are the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Boston Red Sox.
None of these teams are really surprising, as there were only going to be a handful of teams in on Soto.
A free agent at 26, Soto has hit .285/.421/.532 with 201 home runs in his major league career, splitting time with the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, and the Yankees.
As the St. Louis Cardinals look at a potential trade of Nolan Arenado, he is willing to move to first base for his new team, reports Katie Woo of The Athletic.
Arenado, who will be 34 at the start of the 2025 season, hit .272/.325/.394 with a wRC+ of 102 and 16 home runs. He has spent the last four seasons with the Cardinals.
Baseball America released their ‘Bonus Board’ for the upcoming International free agent class.
It’s in order of expected bonus, not necessarily who the better prospect is.
The Pirates are featured once, with Johan De Los Santos coming in eighth. If that last name sounds familiar, it should be, as he is the younger brother of current Pirates’ prospect Yordany De Los Santos.
BA notes that he is a left-handed hitter with “a quick swing and solid bat-to-ball skills” and the potential to hit 10-15 home runs but with plenty of doubles and triples.
There is some divide on whether he’s a shortstop long-term or if he shifts over to second base.
