Morning Rundown: Liover Peguero, Jose Hernandez optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates make a flurry of roster moves
The scheduled game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles was canceled due to weather on Friday.
With just three games left in the Spring schedule, the Pirates will face the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.
Jared Jones was the scheduled starter on Friday, with Chase Anderson expected to start against the Red Sox.
The Pirates made several moves recently, including optioning Liover Peguero and Jose Hernandez to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Peguero was fighting for a roster spot, but an illness recently cut into his playing time. He just got back on the field, so this could be to allow him more time to get back up to speed.
Hernandez was a Rule 5 pick last year who got off to a solid start to the season in 2023 before wearing down a bit down the stretch.
Also, the Pirates moved the following minor leaguers to the 60-day injured list.
Mike Burrows
Brennan Malone
Aaron Shortridge
Joshua Loeschorn
Adrian Florencio
Will Kobos
Johan Montero
Enmanuel Terrero
The list features primarily pitchers, with many of them coming off of season-ending injuries from the previous season, so it probably isn’t entirely unexpected.
Shortridge and Loeschorn finished the season healthy last year, at least it seemed that way, so this would be for something new.

Your support has been amazing for everyone who has subscribed to this point, and I’m beyond thankful.
Triolo won
Congrats to Triolo
I know this isn’t going to come as a shock to anyone who pays money to read about the Pirates, but they aren’t going to start the season with the best 26 guys on the OD roster. Right or wrong, the brain trust has to think about today and tomorrow. It just appears they sacrifice today for tomorrow more than other teams.
