A look at how the Pirates Single, and High-A affiliates are currently positioned in their respective playoff races entering the last week of the season.
The Marauders have played themselves back into the race in A. Well pitched game yesterday with Perachi, Kelly, Bidois, Birdsong giving up only 1 run. The second game was also a win where all of the other pitchers were used. What about Perachi? I read he is a LHSP who was passed over by many in the draft because he pitched in Division III, throws 4 pitches, can hit 93 with his FB, and has more K's than innings pitched. Can he continue to improve? Ceiling?
Also liked the work of LHP Cam Alldred at AAA. He has been used as both a SP and RP - any hope of seeing him in Pittsburgh for a look?
WTM wrote about Perachi on Aug. 10. I’d link to it except I couldn’t find it by searching substack (I’m sure there’s a way, but I couldn’t find it); I had to search my email.
WTM’s takeaway was that Perachi is successful when he gets batters to chase outside the zone, but that might not be effective at higher levels; they’ll likely have more patience, leading to either lots of walks, or forcing him to locate in the zone where his stuff is more hittable. I’m not doing justice to the deep dive, though - it’s definitely worth a read.
Located the article and it was Aug 10. Yes, gets a lot of chase out of the zone; velo is more like 89 rather than 93, but has two off-speed pitches with spin rates between 2600-2800, which is very good. Sounds like a good base to work from, and the more able he is to get the FB velo into the low 90's the better his chances will be to make the off speed pitches work even better in his favor.

Thanks for the lead - WTM is a wealth of knowledge on many subjects, but especially so for the Bradenton teams.
