Morning Rundown: Mariners trade for Jorge Polanco; Blake Snell
News around the league include a trade between the Mariners and Twins and a Blake Snell update.
The Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins struck a deal on Monday with five players involved.
Jorge Polanco heads from Minnesota to Seattle in exchange for Anthony DeSclafani, Justin Topa, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Darren Bowen.
After hitting 33 home runs in 2021, Polanco has struggled to stay healthy, playing in 184 games combined the last two years. He has a club option for the 2025 season after signing a six-year $35.25 million contract that runs from 2019 to 2024.
The Twins get two major league pitchers in DeSclafani and Topa, as well as a pair of top 30 prospects in the Mariners system - Gonzalez and Bowen.
In terms of wRC+, the Mariners were in a tie for 24th when it comes to production from the second base position, so this is certainly an upgrade for them.
Among some of the bigger names still available, reigning NL Cy Young award winner Blake Snell is one of them.
According to Bob Nightengale, he has received just one offer so far, and it’s easy to see why - as he reportedly was asking for a 9-year, $270 million contract.
The lone offer he has received so far has apparently been 6-years for $150 million from the New York Yankees.

The trade between the Twins and Mariners was barely signed before MLBTR indicated that the Twins are looking into the 1B market and also looking for a RH hitting corner OF. All of their corner folks bat LH.
The Twins present 1B is Alex Kirilloff, local kid out of Plum Boro, and the Twins First Round pick a while back. He has 2.141 years of MLB Service, one option remaining, and was a Super 2 for which he has a contract for $1.35 mil for 2024. He underwent off season shoulder surgery which went well, but he has not been the hitter they expected. He hits RHP's well - 233 AB's and a slash of .300/.373/.485/.858 OPS in 2023 and struggles a lot against LHP's - 48 AB's and a .482 OPS in 2023. The .485 Slugging against RHP's is enticing, but . . . . ?
