Justin Turner to the Blue Jays for one year and 13 million

Wouldve preferred this as our 1b signing for sure

sigh...

think I´d like us to take a chance on Mickey Moniak to play center field for us

Expand full comment

or Jo Adell to play right. The Angels signing Aaron Hicks might mean they have given up on Adell. Or maybe Moniak can be traded for.

Expand full comment

Boruki for Moniak would be an interesting option

Expand full comment

I have Borucki as one of my sleepers this year, but I would still do the trade.

id put Martin Perez in the bullpen and keep running Hernandez out there as well

Expand full comment

Or nick g as a former top prospect flop swap

Expand full comment

This makes a lot of sense, but I would rather call it top prospect swap for guys that just haven't peaked yet. :)

Moniak seemed to bloom last year though

Jacob Snell > Blake Snell

Darlene Snell > Ian Snell

Expand full comment

Remember when he was Ian Oquendo? Or something similar.

Expand full comment

I think he was Oquendo in the minors and pitched a no-hitter.

Mistake to switch then. Snell is one letter away from a stinky word.

Darlene Snell + Wyatt Langmore >>> Russ Langmore + Roy Petty

Expand full comment

Honestly i think darlene and wyatt fucked me up more lol

Expand full comment

Man, that's a real tough call. Didn't Russ get real physical with Petty and other men he laid with? Then again, Darlene was absolutely disgusting on every conceivable level.

Expand full comment

Yeah they definitely took the rough approach, but the age difference for the other two gave me the heebie jeebies, plus i had such a huge soft spot for wyatt as a kid caught in a really tough upbringing and couldnt quite make his way out of his past. His fall from likely going to college all the way to darlene was really bad

misogyny much???

When it comes to the character development of the Byrde's, yes

One of the least likeable protagonists (if she could even be considered a protagonist, more like just an agonist as in brings on agony)

She brought me so much agony. To the point I only continued watching that show out of hate.

Pirates have signed Brady Feigl, a 33-yr-old LHRP, to a MiL deal. He’s been in indy ball for several years.

Expand full comment

This is weird, enough so that it warranted a wikipedia entry -- There's a second Brady Feigl, also a 6'4" LHP but born five years later. The two look almost identical. They both even had TJ. They had a DNA test to see whether they're related, but they're not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Feigl

Expand full comment

The other Feigl is a right-handed pitcher. It's also a bit of cheating to say they have the same first name. The Pirates signed the LHP Brady. The RHP goes by Brady, but his actual first name is Braden. So they don't have the same first name, but it's close.

I imagine some hard-working intern proposing this deal and Ben saying, sure why not--it gives those nuts at BoD something to talk about.

Im dumb and lazy, but can someone share with me a comp of what Blake Snell projects to be in his age 31 thru 36 seasons, have a glimpse to the future... I just cant get my head around what he is, is he 180 inning guy that he was this yr and 2018, is he kinda a 120 - 130 average inning guy the other years... i dont want him, which is great as a Pirate fan, dont have to worry about it🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Consistent with this is that FG had him worth 4.1 WAR while BR had him worth 6.0 WAR. Was he very good or exceptional? Ironically, in '19, '21, and '22, FG had him worth 2.7, 2.1, and 3.6 WAR while BR had him worth 1.4, 1.4, and 2.1 WAR.

FG shows a consistently good pitcher whose '23 was not an outlier and who should be worth $25-30MM per season, though maybe not for more than 5-6 years. BR would make me nervous that such a deal is largely spending for an outlier season that he'll likely never come close to again. However, both show that he's averaged about 3 WAR per season over the last four full seasons, it's just a matter of how you view his reliability.

Exactly, who is this guy🤣

The trade between the Twins and Mariners was barely signed before MLBTR indicated that the Twins are looking into the 1B market and also looking for a RH hitting corner OF. All of their corner folks bat LH.

The Twins present 1B is Alex Kirilloff, local kid out of Plum Boro, and the Twins First Round pick a while back. He has 2.141 years of MLB Service, one option remaining, and was a Super 2 for which he has a contract for $1.35 mil for 2024. He underwent off season shoulder surgery which went well, but he has not been the hitter they expected. He hits RHP's well - 233 AB's and a slash of .300/.373/.485/.858 OPS in 2023 and struggles a lot against LHP's - 48 AB's and a .482 OPS in 2023. The .485 Slugging against RHP's is enticing, but . . . . ?

Bmac is gonna need a cigarette if the Bucs trade for Kirilloff.

big time!

maybe Connor Joe for Kirilloff?

Expand full comment

This seems like a fair deal though the BTV trade simulator suggests we would need to add value approximately equal to our Round A Comp pick or perhaps Mlod or NG. I'd do it, but I also really like Joe. We'd be trading reliability for upside. I don't mind trading that Comp pick but two of our top 10 prospects were picked around that spot so maybe not too wise to part with it.

Expand full comment

> We'd be trading reliability for upside

this is the only way we succeed

Expand full comment

With regards to the simulator, it confirmed what seemed like a massive overpay for Jorge Polanco. So now the Mariners need to overpay us for a reliever, giving up one of their young starters, and then they can overpay for Dylan Cease to backfill their rotation again.

Expand full comment

I would love Kirilloff for the local ties. But I feel like the dude is hurt all of the time. Wrist problems it was for a little. And as you said shoulder this off season. I seem to always want to pick him up in fantasy baseball only for him to hit the IL a day or two later. I think we should bring all the local boys back. Even Austin Hendrick. I don't care that he hasn't hit above 216 in the minors.

Expand full comment

I wouldn't call it a position of strength, rather than a position of too many bodies and too little plate appearances, but we got a Connor Joe.

Be interesting to see what Snell ends up signing for. Can’t really see him taking a one-year high dollar contract to try to improve his value. But I can’t see anyone offering him 9 years either. I’m guessing something around 6/180 will be the number.

Expand full comment

I'm fairly sure the 6/$150 tossed out by the Yankees is probably considered by everyone as a starting point. Snell is well worth the 6/$180 - adding Juan Soto and a healthy Aaron Judge to the lineup, I would think the Yankees would want to have Cole and Snell as you two No. 1's in the Rotation.

Expand full comment

Snell is no Cole.

Cole is a guy who relishes pitching deep into games every 5th day. Snell relishes doing the least amount of work he can get away with.

If he signs with Yankees and brings his sub-optimal work ethic with him, those fans and the media will make his life very unpleasant.

Expand full comment

You have anything to back this up on Snell, or do you just hate his face and these statements are evidence of that bubbling up to the surface? We’re fans, so either answer is acceptable!

Expand full comment

Cole has 6 seasons of over 200 IP. Snell has 2 seasons of 180 IP. In no other year has Snell exceeded 129 IP.

The man doesn’t post!

Expand full comment

While true regarding his inning total, you’re seemingly saying it’s a deliberate action by Snell. A character flaw. Of which it seems you don’t have any evidence.

Frankly, I think guys like Snell (Cease is another) just have subpar command/control over pretty nasty stuff. They don’t know where it’s going and neither does the hitter. That’s frustrating, but to chalk it up to laziness or whatever you’re after here is incorrect.

I’d be wary of signing him or any similar arm long-term, but that’s because stuff guys don’t have much to fall back on if the stuff backs up.

Expand full comment

I’ll meet you halfway…he’s not dependable and erratic. Hopefully that language isn’t as harsh.

Expand full comment

Given that Snell is 31, a $25MM AAV over six years seems fair. It might seem like a bargain over the next couple of years but the final 3-4 years could be ugly.

One yellow flag for me is that in '19-'22 he never threw more than about 140 innings and then last year jumped to 180. So, can he consistently pitch a full season? And will there be any effects from that jump in innings last season?

He is to baseball what Kawhai Leonard is to basketball, load management poster child.

Serious buyer beware red flags associated with this Ace.
