Morning Rundown: Matt Gorski becomes latest to reach 20/20 in Pirates' system
Joins two other players to reach 20 home runs and stolen bases during the season.
With his home run on Sunday, Matt Gorski became the third player in the Pirates’ organization to reach the 20/20 mark.
It was the second straight season that Gorski has achieved the feat, and you could make a case that injuries prevented him from reaching 30/30, at least when it comes to 2022.
One of the biggest power hitters in the system, Gorski has 61 home runs and 60 stolen bases since 2021 in just over 1,100 plate appearances.
Gorski joins Jase Bowen and Liover Peguero as the only players to accomplish the feat this year, and with just the major league and Triple-A seasons still going, it’s likely they will be the only three.
Bowen put together one of the better seasons when it comes to hitters in the South Atlantic League, and reached the 20/20 mark before he was promoted to Altoona. He finished the season with 23 home runs and 24 stolen bases.
Of the players to reach 20/20, Peguero is probably the most shocking, as up to this year had never really hit for too much power.
Not only has he put it all together, but he’s also done it at the major league level, with seven of the 20 home runs he has this season coming with the Pirates. He actually has done more with the bat than on the bases, stealing just four since the promotion.
The speed is still there of course, and he has stolen 81 bases since the start of the 2021 season.
