Is out last hope Taylor Ward and rengifo?

Expand full comment

Our last hope was Nuttin hiring Matt Arnold.

Expand full comment

hearing from sources that Friedl is in play

Bathroom attendant at Primantis or?

primanti´s is for tourists

Expand full comment

I've never lived in Pittsburgh so suits me. Been to Primantis once.

Expand full comment

That makes sense.

Pittsburgh area? WPA?

Expand full comment

My dad's from Pittsburgh. His dad moved him to the midwest when he was in junior high. I inherited this shitty team. Didn't choose it.

Expand full comment

Ben is definitely interested in Verdugo, right? Former Red Sox. Mediocre. Plays all over the OF.

Expand full comment

what a fucking joke

Expand full comment

Pirates out on Yandy

Expand full comment

Where you see that? (Just not seeing it)

I see Ben is keeping his "walkaway point" sharp this offseason.

Expand full comment

walkaway point is simple: no Bubba and no Termarr

Expand full comment

and no walkaway with Rooker or Luis Robert or anyone good enough to help them catch and pass two teams in the WC race

Expand full comment

What a surprise.

Tim coming through:

Yandy Diaz turns 33 years old in about a week. He's having the worst offensive season of his career. His barrel% has dropped from above-average to below-average. Defense is awful. Owed about $14 million by the end of 2025. You know the Rays would raid the Pirates system.

You really want them to pick him up?

Expand full comment

His worst offensive season of his career would be the third best on our team 1 point of wRC+ behind Cruz....

Expand full comment

Some fans just can’t seem to process how unbelievably easy it’d be to substantially upgrade this lineup.

Expand full comment

For fucks sake it wouldn't be a substantial upgrade to pick up a .7 WAR player that has no defensive position, is declining with the bat, and would cost a fuck ton in prospect value for mediocre production.

I'm not wanting BC to sit on his hands, but shit, don't just pick up expensive, not good players just to appease some internet trolls...

Expand full comment

By FWAR, Diaz would be the Pirates’ 4th best position player. You’re just not getting it.

Expand full comment

They want Diaz, who can't lift the ball and is a bad defender.

But they didn't want Jazz, who by the way, hit 2 bombs last night.

You can see right through some of these comments

Expand full comment

I like Rengifo. Any word there/

Expand full comment

I haven’t seen anyone linking him to the pirates…but I agree, he can actually hit

Expand full comment

"Luis Ortiz would be a number 1 starter on 9 of 12 current playoff teams" is today's craziness in Pirates blogosphere. Same poster earlier in the thread bemoaned that we "need a more educated fanbase" :) I think I'll rename this segment the Kevin Koch Award in honor of the original Pirate Parrot mascot who dealt coke to players.

Expand full comment

You think 11 out of 12? Humor intended.

Expand full comment

It was solely based on ERA too. Just too much. Too funny.

Expand full comment

Termarr just pulled...

Expand full comment

He apparently threw a fit after his prior at bat. Must've pissed the coach off

Expand full comment

Slammed his bat after scorching one up the middle. And it looks like when he slammed his bat, it almost hit the umpire.

pulled in the 9th down by a run.

Better be for Rooker

Expand full comment

Probably Bryan De La Cruz.

Expand full comment

This would sadden me

Expand full comment

See above

Expand full comment

Saddening Pirates fans is why Cherington gets paid the big bucks.

Expand full comment

Josh Bell to AZ. No way was Nuttin going to pick up that contract.

Expand full comment

Nor should he. Josh Bell is no longer a good player.

Expand full comment

Considering the Marlins put him on waivers and were willing to lose him for nothing to get out of it I'm not sure I would want that contract either.

Expand full comment

I don't want them to trade anything for Bryan De La Cruz so they almost definitely will.

Expand full comment

He's marginally above replacement, so I can't see BC being interested.

Expand full comment

Woah O's trade Norby and Kyle Stowers for Trevor Rogers

Expand full comment

And Stowers. Marlins got two step into a MLB lineup right now bats for Trevor Rogers.

Ben should be pouncing on this market.

Expand full comment

BTV thinks Norby and Stowers were _light_! 18 for Rogers and 10 for the two hitters.

Expand full comment

I guess controllable years? Just coming off IL, but I'd have handed them Bailey Falter in a second

Expand full comment

There were a bunch of teams in on Rogers. Maybe one of the ones who lost out wants Falter. Levar Burton thinking meme aimed at Cherington.

Expand full comment

Also seems to hate Stowers, cause I guess age?

Expand full comment

Guessing age and 14 really bad games at MLB last year, yeah

Cubs wisely cashing in on relievers. Mark Leiter Jr to Yankmees

Shelton says we're keeping Chapman and we also just acquired waiver wire Josh Walker from the Mets. LHRP.

Expand full comment

A 29yo reliever with 5+ ERA and limited ML experience. BC's going all out to win!!!

Expand full comment

Seeing some Bailey Falter comps on Walker. Gets FB to 96. A lot of low slot extension. Maybe they're hoping to fix that profile again.

Expand full comment

i recently said something similar about Dennis Santana

Expand full comment

If anything this gets in the way of other potential trades. Takes up a 40-man roster spot.

Expand full comment

He can be dropped as fast as he was added and sometimes that seems to be a teams plan as somebody else has to claim him or they end up keeping the player but off the 40 man.

Expand full comment
Jul 30Edited

Yeah, claim-then-dfa hoping to keep the guy is a common gambit, especially for a team like the Pirates that searches for food in dumpsters.

Expand full comment

It seems like theyre trading something for him rather than a waiver claim.

Probably this gentleman: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E7gUufBWQAMqGVQ.jpg

It's not Mr. Cash Considerations. Rookie ball pitcher Nicolas Carreno

Expand full comment

Yanks sound like they're dropping out on Yandy Diaz leaving us and the Astros as the two other known interested teams.

Expand full comment

BTV: Yankees don't have much trade capital (https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/articles/the-yankees-don-t-have-much-trade-capital)

Yankees: we're adding Jazz Chisholm and interested in Rengifo, Yandy Diaz, Tanner Scott, Pete Fairbanks, Kyle Finnegan and Lucas Erceg.

Expand full comment

Has there been a non injured prospect whose star has fallen further than Spencer Jones this year? If I’m a seller, I’d want no part of him as the primary return.

Expand full comment

Maybe his teammate Jasson Dominguez?

Expand full comment

Dominguez seems far better. Two years younger, better contact, etc. In 2023, Dominguez struck out at just under 25% across all levels, most of that at double A. Jones has struck out nearly 40% of the time at that level this year over almost 400 plate appearances. He’s a lottery ticket.

Expand full comment

Dominguez can at least make adequate contact. Jones appears a lot like a lefty Gorski with less in game power.

Expand full comment

But he's big and a Yankee prospect!

Expand full comment

Top 25 in all of the minors.

Expand full comment

According to EL: "He might be a top 5 prospect a year from now"

Going to hate seeing the Nats get Dylan Carlson for a middle reliever. Change of scenery guy I wish Ben could take a swing on.
