Morning Rundown: MiLB weekly preview - Rough week as only Greensboro capture series win
Altoona joins Bradenton below .500
Indianapolis Indians: 27-22
Last Week: 1-5
Opponent: Nashville (Brewers)
Quick Overview:
The week following a six-game sweep, the Indianapolis Indians dropped five of six to the Toledo Mud Hens. This week, they’ll get to take on the Milwaukee Brewers Triple-A affiliate, the Nashville Sounds. The preview will technically be a day late, as Indy is one of four scheduled Triple-A games for Memorial Day.
The highest-ranked prospect on the Nashville roster is Jacob Misiorowski, who will have pitched Monday evening. The consensus top 100 pitcher has slowly climbed the organizational ladder after wowing evaluators with his high heat fastball during the 2022 MLB Draft combine, and then drafted by the Brewers in the second round. He sits atop the International League’s leaderboard in most categories, along with the Pirates’ own Bubba Chandler. Misiorowski so far has a 1.60 ERA through 56.1 IP, and has struck out 71 batters.
Logan Henderson is also a name to know, drafted in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Brewers. He cracked Fangraphs top 100 list, and has made his MLB debut this season. He actually just threw five innings against the Pirates this past Sunday, allowing only one earned run and striking out six. He was then a casualty of D.L. Hall being activated. Speaking of rehabbers, Indy will also see Brandon Woodruff, with reports saying he’s at least one or two more minor league starts away from being activated.

Altoona Curve: 21-24
Last Week: 1-5
Opponent: Portland (Red Sox)
Quick Overview:
Speaking of rehabbers, it’s a bit of a theme this week as the Altoona Curve may face a Boston Red Sox rehabber Richard Fitts. Presuming he isn’t moved up for his next start, the Fangraphs top 100 prospect was off to a strong start this season before falling to injury. Then on the topic of injuries, unfortunately Luis Perales is still working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2024.
That leaves top ranked prospect as David Sandlin, who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, then traded to the Red Sox in 2024 for John Schreiber. Sandlin generally sits mid-90’s, with ability to touch 100 MPH.
Mikey Romero may be a familiar name, as he was the Red Sox first round pick (22nd overall) in the 2022 MLB Draft. He might be six months to a year away from being traded to the Pirates.

Greensboro Grasshoppers: 32-13
Last Week: 5-1
Opponent: Bowling Green (Rays)
Quick Overview:
The golden child stays golden. Now, the Greensboro Grasshoppers didn’t keep up trends by going 4-2 on the week, but they kept the trend of not winning the first game of the series since April 22nd. Even better is the fact that they’ve now moved two full games ahead of Brooklyn.
Coming to Greensboro this week will be the Bowling Green Hot Rods, who are still atop the South division, tied with the Hub City Spartanburgers, at 24-21, while the Hoppers are 32-13.
Aidan Smith is the highest ranked prospect, 6th overall on the Tampa Bay Rays team list, and on two top 100 lists. It’s been a rough go after arriving from the Seattle Mariners in a trade last season, as he’s only slashing .219/.335/.321 so far through 36 games. 12th-ranked Gary Gill Hill was at one point creeping onto the backend of top 100 lists, but the 2022 sixth-round pick has gotten hit around a bit this year with a 4.96 ERA in nine starts.

Bradenton Marauders: 20-24
Last Week: 3-3
Opponent: Fort Myers (Twins)
Quick Overview:
This matchup is a little more intriguing than at first glance, as Pipeline has the top-ranked Minnesota Twins’ prospect on the Fort Myers roster being only 13th, but lefthander Dasan Hill ranks among Baseball America’s top 100 prospects. He was drafted in the Competitive Balance Round B of the 2024 MLB Draft. The tall lefty has thrown only 17.0 innings this year, but has struck out 28 batters while walking nine with a 2.12 ERA.
The Marauders will also see their own opposing rehabber, with 22nd-ranked Payton Eeles working his way back from injury. The 5’5” infielder was signed for just $500 out of the Atlantic League and found his way to Triple-A by the end of 2024.

One little bit of good news — Reinold Navarro is starting in the FCL this AM, so he evidently wasn’t hurt much by taking a liner off the shin a week ago.
Probability of scoring with bases loaded and no outs, roughly 85% to 86%. Average number of runs scored in this situation, approximately 2.29. Pirates 0% and no runs
