Pham just in time so the pirates might be able to get a prospect/suspect for him. I am sure whom ever Cherry receives in the trade will toll in the minors until they retire.
Speaking of, at this point, barring taking dev at bats from another SS, i say they just keep running him there knowing the kid has the ability to like immediately jump into CF and be a fn stud.
100%. Worked with Jackson Merrill, Robin Yount and many others. Rather Griffin have the chance to develop as a SS to see what he can do with more time there.
Saw on twitter today that Ethan originally thought he couldn’t be called due to being recently optioned. But then upon further review, he thought he could be. But perhaps he can’t.
Darrell-Hicks is 27 years old. He made his MLB debut this year with a 9.39 ERA over 7.2 IP. He has a 4.30 ERA across 4 seasons and 205 IP in the minors. And had a 5.64 ERA across 5 season and 156 IP in college at Western Kentucky and Jacksonville.
Looked fine. Throwing easy. Couple days ago somebody, I think Cherington, said he wasn't quite throwing all-out but was still up to 94 or something like that.
Slow start for sure, but he is hitting slightly better as of late. He’s still somehow a decent age for AA and it’s been 17 games, I’d give him a little more time before throwing him in the scrap bin.
When your "great, wonderful" new GM DFA's Brent Rooker and then trades Ryan O Hearn for "cash considerations," you are likely to have real problems. But thank goodness they got rid of that holier-than-thou anti-pornography GM who took them to the World Series and had their minor league system stacked with good prospects because he did not immediately return them to the World Series the year after the new ownership group bought the team.
Dayton Moore: 13 full seasons in KC, 3 of them over .500. Three other partial seasons he was there for (2006 when hired, the Covid season, and 2021 where he failed upwards into the Presidents office) were also under .500. In those 13 full seasons, his winning percentage is .459 or an average of 74-88.
Even with a title and another long postseason run, that’s a pretty shitty record. And when Sherman bought the team in 2019, they’d failed to win 60 games in 2018 and 2019. That dude was long overdue to get canned.
OK. Then why hire his right-hand man and the man responsible for player development during that entire period as his replacement if the problem was the legacy and record?
If you are unsatisfied with the results of his tenure and want to get rid of Moore, fine (though I think he should have had 2 more years to see how the prospects panned out- instead of just assuming they were all busts because they didn't immediately become superstars at age 22). But then go outside the organization to find the replacement and rebuild the front office and development teams.
They literally changed 1 person in the whole organization, and the man whom they replaced him with immediately gave away 2 of their most valuable assets.
Not that this is the model to follow, but it’s happened with Chicago several times: Kenny Williams to Rick Hahn to Chris Getz. Dombrowski gave way to Al Avila. Lots of organizations fear big changes beyond lopping off the top man.
Also I’m not a royals fan, but I don’t recall them being flush with prospects when Moore got his walking papers. The 2021 FG prospect list shows Witt and mostly shit after that (though Alec Marsh was alright last year). Again, neither Picolo or Moore look good with those results.
I will be making the drive to Milwaukee in a couple hours to see the next 2 games. Going from 95 degree temperatures to 68 degree temperatures the next 2 start times. It will most likely rain with some possible storms so I'm guessing the roof might be closed.
Great game by the Pirates last night. NG 5-5, 2 doubles, Pham 2 hits, one being his first HR (Last 15 Games - 12 for 39, 6 BB/8 K, 819 OPS). Somebody will spend the $1+ mil to sign him. Horwitz, Reynolds both with 2 hits also. Ashcraft and the BP of Shugart, Mattson, and Bednar held the Brewers.
Still waiting for the Pirates to promote C Omar Alfonzo and OF Esmerlyn Valdez to AA. There are not any more deserving position players at A+ except for Konnor Griffin. Rivas always had strikeout issues, and he started 2025 fairly well, but has since dropped to a K/BB of almost 5/1 - he needs to stay at A+ and work to get that down to something respectable. Promoting Gourson?
Catchers at AA are Hendrie 26, .149 BA, Ross 25, .163 BA, and McKeithan 25, .174 BA. Alfonzo up to AA, and Plaz up to A+.
Rivas had a 4 game bad stretch when Griffin was called up, he struck out 11 times in 18 plate appearances. He has had strikeout issues with lefties, he's struck out around half the time. Against right handers he's been right around 19% to 21% k rate all season.
You get some really SSSs vs. LHPs in the low minors. In his case, 53 ABs this year. Which may be less of a SS issue than an issue of some hitters needing more looks to adjust. Pretty sure there are a couple other guys with odd splits like this, but I'm too lazy to search right now.
I think with lefties, it's the ball running in on him, probably just needs more time facing them. I really like his swing adjustments this year but you can only bring your hands in so far once the swing has started.
Running a ball inside on right-handed batters followed by a change that drops away is the one-trick-that-works every time strategy for LHP at very low levels. For LHP to have success beyond high school, college, or the low minors, they need to find more tricks.
Parlez vouz les home of Cajun and Creole? Was thinking a SW one due to Native Americans. But I am sticking with my answer. Let a few more get in on the act before the big reveal. Cie vous plait?

My god, the catch Konnor Griffin made AGAIN last night...
I'm usually against cloning, but it sure would be cool to see 9 of him out there at each position. https://x.com/BUCoachGriffin/status/1937336150244344241
don't be greedy, we'll take one for SS. ;)
Speaking of, at this point, barring taking dev at bats from another SS, i say they just keep running him there knowing the kid has the ability to like immediately jump into CF and be a fn stud.

Darrell-Hicks up, Stratton down.
Who is Darrell-Hicks? We need an explanation from Cherington on this no Moreta thing.
A waiver wire claim. Dude had an 8.87 era in AAA and 9.39 in 7.2 innings with Angels.......this year.
He's from Parkersburg, WV.....maybe knows the Nutting daughters.
Why in God’s name is this guy in the majors?
Never mind. I see the basics below. This is inane.
What’s the deal with Moreta?
Saw on twitter today that Ethan originally thought he couldn’t be called due to being recently optioned. But then upon further review, he thought he could be. But perhaps he can’t.
I thought no, but not going to disagree with Ethan.

sounds like a pirate to me
with all due respect, who?
valdez to altoona please
Eddie Rynders just hit his first pro HR.
hopefully he can get on a hot streak now
Oviedo is throwing BP here at Pirate City.
How's he look?
Looked fine. Throwing easy. Couple days ago somebody, I think Cherington, said he wasn't quite throwing all-out but was still up to 94 or something like that.
Maikol Escotto’s slash line at Altoona: .172/.250/.190.
Once again AA separates the men from the boys. So I think we can put the Escotto salvaging the Taillon trade hopes to rest.
Because you made me curious over lunch...
-Miguel Yajure has a 2.51 ERA across six starts in his second year playing in the NPB
-Roansy Contreras is floating between rotation and pen for the Orioles AAA club.
-Canaan Smith-Ngjbmejw appears to be out of baseball
Whew.
And Taillon is still an effective starter for the Cubs.
Our internal metrics show that ultimately the players we acquired will outperform the player we gave up.
Slow start for sure, but he is hitting slightly better as of late. He’s still somehow a decent age for AA and it’s been 17 games, I’d give him a little more time before throwing him in the scrap bin.

Gulp. Tomorrow the fearsome Pirates offense faces the guy with 11 no-hit innings to start his career.
In direct conflict with Nick Gonzalez ten consecutive hit streak
I’m wondering how he’ll beat 11 no-hit innings. No doubt we’ll see.
That royals AAA lineup, sheesh.

You're scaring me now. That's exactly what Nutting will do, if he has the balls to fire BC.
Meet the new boss….
In a way, I almost feel like he did that already. Canned one Amherst guy for another.

IKF has interest from the giants and yankees, put Hayes at SS going into next year
Approved.
C Richard Ramirez and RHP Dariel Francia promoted from FCL to Bradenton.
Should be more official transactions today. They tend to dribble out.

Get some bratwurst!
and getting beer in Milwaukee is just understood.

I dig these rundowns. Great work.
Padres killed it one year. The year we had numero uno for BC part une. Deux stayed the same. I'm basically tri-lingual in message boards.

Si senor.
Creo que seleccionaría a Nick Gonzales antes que a Evan Carter.
Creoles select Nicky Sticks and Evan Carter is an antique?

Nobody is interested in our shenanigans...
You're correct, tho. It's Louisiana
Oui monsieur
