I hadn't realized how much mitchell miliano's stuff is playing up this year with his dec BB rate. Could be a fun video idea!

Santana to the brewer's

SS whos in the FCL coming back, dont hate that sort of return

Expand full comment

I wouldn't have expected much more for Santana. It's at least a little sexier than "bad reliever that MAYBE they can fix"

Expand full comment

Definitely sexier than that! Hes years away but they had to give him over a mil to sign him internationally so teams mustve thought something of him. Probably the most upside we could get from a rental like santana

Expand full comment

Reminds me of another deadline deal for a raw SS with power and a strong arm…… if he develops, will be ready about the time Cruz is deciding to extend or go for the gusto in FA……maybe some good timing?😁

Expand full comment

Yep, only 18 and has shown some power.

Expand full comment

Looks like he was #21 on last years international class which is pretty cool

From BA: "Dominican shortstop Jhonny Severino is another power bat, with even more power than Barrios from his 6-foot-2 frame with the bat speed and strength projection for more power coming. He’s a switch-hitter who could have plus raw power from both sides of the plate, with more advanced hitting ability from the right side. He has shown a solid approach for his age, too, with the patience to draw walks and get himself into good counts. An average runner, Severino is an offensive-oriented infielder who might start off at shortstop but will likely move elsewhere, with a plus arm that would fit at third base."

Hopefully he can jump up to low A soon and join YDLS and Termarr.

Expand full comment

more likely scenario is probably him and YDLS starting together in Bradenton come 2024.

Expand full comment

Fangraphs thinks he'll move to the outfield in right before its all said and done.

Expand full comment

Sounds like he could have the arm and power to do that!

sources saying Hill, Joe and Roansy to the Blue Jays for Manoah and Varsho

Expand full comment

That would a dream lol

Expand full comment

If I was the Blue Jays, i´d think that 2023 Manoah would be less reliable as a 5th starter than Hill and they may be having buyers regret on 2023 Varsho

I do think change of scenario bounces back Varsho and Manoah

I have no problem with trading Keller or Bedar...As long as it's a beisbol trade and it makes the team better. No low-level prospects, the *build* is beyond that phase.

Expand full comment

Especially if the dearth of sellers sends their value sky high. Getting this kind of call right could very well make us a playoff team in the next year or two vs spinning our wheels

Expand full comment

I feel the same, wouldn't mind some low-level players as the pot sweetener but definitely need a position of need bat (Manzardo or Busch) plus a near ready arm or two.

Expand full comment

Also, this Quero and Bush swap for lopez and giolito is quite the move from the angels going all in. I know there are factors in shohei leaving and their franchise being fairly poorly run in general, but gives me flashback to the archer trade where they are way overpaying out of desperation. At the same time, would love to see shohei and trout in the playoffs so I hope it works out

Expand full comment

Makes me think the Dodgers are going to overpay for pitching. They need a starter and an upgrade in the bullpen. The move by the Halo's takes 2 of Dodgers primary targets off the board, don't see the Padres moving Snell or Hader north either. Probably going to hear a lot of worthless chatter on Keller and Bednar with the Dodgers having interest.

Expand full comment

If I’m Chicago and got that much for Gio, I’d put Cease on the market too. Especially with Ohtani staying put. They could probably get a fortune for him.

I’m torn on what to do with Bednar. He’s gonna be 30 in October and bad bodied closers (Hanrahan) don’t age well.

Good to see some familiar faces here.

Expand full comment

Hahaha, right on buddy. Vindication!

Expand full comment

All the more reason to trade Bednar to offset the graduations. Keep that farm system ranked high!

Expand full comment

I agree but if a trade did occur, I sure hope the return would include a potential regular player, for example Manzardo from TB, Busch from LAD. I sure would hope for a near ready arm or 2 like Montgomery and/or Wilcox from TB, Frasso and/or Nastrini from LAD.

Expand full comment

I’m pretty cool on Busch. He’s Colin Moran 2.0 (old for a prospect, slow, no position defensively). Manzardo I like but he took a step back this year. Maybe they get Rushing so they can build an army of catchers.

For me, I’d want them to be bowled over if they’re gonna trade Keller. The same with Bednar, but to a lesser extent.

Expand full comment

He can actually play firstbase, and he can hit. It's a position of need. At least he looked decent while he was in college at first.

Expand full comment

But can he hit.

Expand full comment

That changes fairly quickly when Endy, Henry Davis and Quinn Priester all graduate

Expand full comment

Then we fall to like 10th in a hurry lol

That's not a bad body. That's a Yinzer Dad Bod!

Good to see you and WTM in here!

Fueled by Primanti’s and IC Light, no doubt! Getting used to this Substack thing, checking out what they’ve got here. Pretty pretty good!

I was at my brother in laws baby shower a few weeks ago. One of his buddies had this super soaker looking gun that was a beer shotgun. I'm old school in my shot gunning of beers but that thing was nice. Nothing says baby shower like a super soaker beer shotgun. Moral of post: I bet Bednar could handle the super soaker as well as go old school.

Expand full comment

I expect the bednar brothers could be a menace against a few cases of IC light

Expand full comment

Yea, Nola pointed out this was more a desperation move on the Angels part but can't help but feel a little more interested in maybe moving Bednar. Maybe there is another team that goes into desperation mode and willing to give up a lot.

Expand full comment

Dodgers, O's and Ray's have the prospect capital to make any team take a double take on almost any pitcher. They all have major needs for a starter and a reliever.

Expand full comment

Mmm some of those Os position player prospects could make you second guess! Also, DL hall's stock as fallen some but he could definitely become a hader-like reliever

Expand full comment

I’ve been high on DL Hall for a while. I remember Roansy Contreras’ first game at AA he matched up against Hall. For as good as Roansy did, Hall matched him up evenly.

Expand full comment

Do it. Not sure I want BC making the trade but I guess it is what it is.

I like the fact that in Jebb's first inning of play Anthony used the word "hustle" twice in the write up. I'm all about the hustle.

Expand full comment

He will almost instantly become a top 10 prospect for the Pirates

Expand full comment

Good to know. I pay zero attention to college baseball. And less than 0 attention to the high school level.

Expand full comment

He's a good player, just really was hoping for a power bat with that pick.

Expand full comment

I saw somewhere that said they believe there is more power potential there for Jebb. Big 10 stadiums just weren't too hitter friendly. Also Jim Callis said Garret Forrester has some untapped power potential as well. So I guess we will see.

Expand full comment

With Jebb's swing I just can't see it producing much power. He would have to become a pull hitter and master backspin. He can still get plenty of extra bases in the gaps and down the lines. He does get some natural backspin with his swing but more on a line drive than loft (great for the gaps, terrible if at an outfielder).

Forrester definitely has untapped power, hope I'm wrong but for him to tap into it, it's going to cost him contact and lead to swing and miss. Half his games coming at PNC is also going to hurt his power (only seen him drive the ball occasionally to right center).

I really like both players just don't think they were the ones the pirates needed when taken.

Expand full comment

And he had a hand / wrist issue this year - similar to the Triolo situation

Expand full comment

I was pulling for a more well rounded college bat (Hurley, Groover) or cold weather prep arm (Wolters, Clemmy). Oh well.

Expand full comment

Clemmey I really liked going into the daft. Didn't watch a lot of Mueth but I like the fastball movement. First year in a while I really invested time in getting to know some of the draft prospects and it only led to heart break lol

Alderman and Hurley was on my wish list.
