Morning Rundown: Mitch Jebb Debut, Angel Perdomo Suspended, Pirates Series Win
The first 2023 draft pick made their professional debut, and Angel Perdomo was suspended three games by the MLB
Mitch Jebb became the first of the Pirates 2023 draft picks to make their professional debut, starting for the Bradenton Marauders and playing shortstop. He led off the game with a hustle double on a ball weakly hit past the second baseman, registering 88.5 mph off the bat.
He showed even more hustle scoring from second base on a wild pitch, and got immediately involved defensively by getting the first out of the bottom half of the inning.
The Pirates second round pick this year out of Michigan State, Baseball America gave Jebb an above average (55) hit tool, as well as plus speed (60) - getting to show the latter out the gate. Thought there is questions about where he will play, he made a few at shortstop.
A little drama to come out of the Pirates game Tuesday night, as Angel Perdomo plunked Manny Machado with a 98 mph fastball after giving up a home run to Juan Soto.
He was eventually ejected from the game, and on Wednesday was suspended for three games. In 21 games with the Pirates this season, Perdomo has struck out 30 batters in 20.2 innings, posting a 116 ERA+ as well.
Manager Derek Shelton was also suspended one game, which he served during the Pirates win on Wednesday.
There was a little added drama at the end, but the Pirates sneaked out a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres, take the three-game road series 2-1. They are off on Thursday before returning home to for a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Friday we will have the first Gameday thread article out, where I’ll give a small preview of the game, post lineups as well as any news that happens throughout the day.
That will post at noon. There will be another premium article released as well on Thursday, this one on Josiah Sightler. NolaJeffy (BnP, or whatever else he gets called) will have a feature on Friday adding on to my article about the top pitching prospects.
Yesterday’s Feature
Drake Fellows, acquired in the Joe Musgrove trade, made his first appearance in two years in the Florida Complex League, and WTM was on scene to take a look. He also got a chance to watch Hunter Barco and Michael Kennedy that day.

Also, this Quero and Bush swap for lopez and giolito is quite the move from the angels going all in. I know there are factors in shohei leaving and their franchise being fairly poorly run in general, but gives me flashback to the archer trade where they are way overpaying out of desperation. At the same time, would love to see shohei and trout in the playoffs so I hope it works out
I have no problem with trading Keller or Bedar...As long as it's a beisbol trade and it makes the team better. No low-level prospects, the *build* is beyond that phase.
