The Chicago White Sox signed left-handed pitcher Martin Perez to a one-year contract worth $5 million on Wednesday.
Perez, 33, split time between the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres in 2024. He posted a 5.20 ERA over 83 innings pitched with the Pirates before getting traded to the Padres. There, he put up a much better 3.46 ERA in 10 starts.
He joins another former Pirates, Bryse Wilson, on the White Sox looking to land a rotation spot.
Perez has 90 career wins in the majors and a 4.44 ERA in 1575.2 innings pitched.
The Washington Nationals signed Amed Rosario to a one-year contract worth $2 million on Wednesday. Rosario hit .280/.306/.380 with three home runs and 32 RBI in 103 games with three teams (Rays, Dodgers, Reds).
In 2024, Rosario played games at second, third, right field, and shortstop (20 more as a DH).
He hit 15 home runs with the New York Mets in 2019.
Florida Marlins left-handed pitcher Braxton Garrett is set to miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Garrett's 2024 season was injury-filled. He pitched in just seven games, posting a 5.35 ERA (3.49 xFIP) in 37 innings.
In 2023, he posted a 9-7 record with a. 3.66 ERA (3.42 xFIP) with 156 strikeouts in 159.2 innings pitched.
The Marlins pitching staff has been decimated by injuries recently. Sandy Alcantara will be working his way back after missing all of 2023, as will Eury Perez.
