Morning Rundown: Nolan Arenado reportedly blocks trade with Astros
Arenado blocks trade, MLB Pipeline article
It was a quiet day in baseball on Wednesday, with one thing of note happening.
St. Louis Cardinals’ infielder Nolan Arenado was reportedly prepared to waive his no-trade clause for the right situation.
According to reports on Wednesday, the Houston Astros were not one of those teams he was willing to waive it for.
Mark Feinsand, John Denton, and Brian McTaggart reported that Arenado blocked a trade the Astros and Cardinals were working on. Katie Woo and Chandler Rome provided more details on The Athletic.
MLB Pipeline had an article on the site about one standout prospect stat from each team. By the end of things, they rattled off a couple of numbers on Bubba Chandler, the top prospect in the system.
Among pitchers in the system with 100+ innings, Chandler led in K-BB% (22.3%), strikeouts (148), K/9 (11.1), and xFIP (3.37).
Chandler is among baseball's top pitching prospects, so it’s not a surprise he led in so many categories.

Good morning and continued thanks for this 6 am line. Reading the explanations of why Nolan Arenado blocked the trade, it was the right thing for him to do with the information available. And, after spending most of my career in the world of contract negotiations, it is almost always the right move. He's an excellent player but nothing better than the possibility of Ke'Bryan Hayes coming back to his 2023 stats of 31 doubles, 7 triples, 15 HR, 61 RBI and a Gold Glove. We had a fantastic return last year by Oneil Cruz - can we get another in 2025 from Ke?
Two excellent articles on Spencer Horwitz from Alex Stumpf on the Pirates page. Good read about how he was called to tell him he had been traded to Cleveland, but then told to stand by because Cleveland had received another offer. After it all shook out he said it was good to be wanted.
