Morning Rundown: Paul Skenes gets no-decision, weekly recap
Paul Skenes pitches seven, one-run innings. A weekly recap and top performers in the minors.
Paul Skenes gave up a run on the first pitch he threw on Sunday and then a double to the second batter. He settled in and pitched seven innings but ended up with a no-decision.
Skenes allowed six hits and a walk through seven innings while striking out eight. His final pitch reached 101.5 mph, throwing 98—69 of which went for strikes.
The outing brings his ERA down to 2.14. He has alternated picking up wins on and off ever since getting called up, with him getting the win against Cincinnati before ending with the no-decision on Sunday.
Bryan Reynolds picked up two of the three hits by the offense, one of which was his 12th home run of the season.
With that series over, the Pirates will head straight to Cincinnati for three games against the Reds.
Before the game on Sunday, it was announced that David Bednar was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained oblique.
The move was retroactive back to June 20th.
Left-handed pitcher Justin Bruihl was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.
It was a solid week throughout the system. They combined to go 26-14 (if you count the completed game in the FCL), resulting in a win percentage of .650.
